I have always been fascinated by those sleeping only a few hours.

I'm running a little over 6 miles (10km) 5 days a week and never manage to sleep less then 7 hours.

8 hours is actually what I need.

What about you guys ?

hehe, nice post - might be an interesting thread ;-)

still doing research on this topic: i am better off sleeping less than to much, for example it is easier for me to rise after three hours of sleep and i am in a better mood than sleeping 7 hours. 6 hours seems to be a good option for me, maybe 9 hours would be great, but this will never happen.

best wishes and kind regards,
martin

I'm still working on finding the ultimate number. But I like 8 or so hours. If I sleep too long I actually feel really tired not really refreshed. Although that doesn't stop me from sleeping way to long on the occasional saturday.

I used to sleep 7 hours an average, but ever since my surgeries, my transplant, and my near death experience, and I guess do to the load of meds I take for life... I can only ever average about 4 to 5 hours sleep in bits and pieces at times, lately fortunately seems all at once, I guess I have been working way harder outdoor instead then seated on a Computer and I found that been a big help.

At times I envy those that can sleep for 12 hours or more, and at times I really despise that they are sleeping half their life away.

Yet we must not forget how we are built, and that our Brain needs our all body to sleep in order to recharge, Literally.

Same, but on shoots i can deal with 2-3 a night, as long as it doesn't last too long. Then I catch up with like 14.

My heart goes out to you Ketch.

under normal conditions 7 to 8 hours are just fine…

it really depends on the workload tho - e.g. I can easily work like 2 days straight without sleep and still "perform" if needed - but after that I need like 12-14h sleep where I don't hear any phone ringing or such ;)

5-7 hrs on average, I would love to sleep longer, but with kids, work, and the necessity to feed my own urges/interests that´s what I have time for.

I think my internal clock is set for more than 24 hrs days - somewhere between 27-29 hrs would be perfect, if we could just slow down the rotation of the planet a bit...

I am bad about 4 hours if I am lucky. otherwise I don't get caught up with work. It sucks sometimes but your body gets use to it

My wife thinks I'm both a workaholic and also suffers from insomnia... Personally I disagree, I can put up with no sleep for many days on a row but then in the end I crash and have like 30 hours of deep sleep. Even though I actually enjoy sleeping very much, I do find life far too interesting to do it even as much as would be good for my health. Like right now, 11,30 at night I'm at work even though I came with the flight from Prag this afternoon where I attended a 2 super long day shoot, where I also did not only the drinking at night but also the editing, and now I will work for 3 weeks straight pretty much day and night. Again I think the one reason why I even can do it is because I enjoy it so much.

I used to sleep 8 hours straight no problem, not so much now. Maybe 5 hours is the best I can do plus a 20 minute nap after lunch. Aging is a b***h...

Bjorn, I find the only time I get a full night of sleep is when I am on my boat. Is that true for you also?

In general I try to plan for 7-8. On longer jobs (over 2-3 weeks), I get in the groove of about 6 hours a night. When you are doing 12 hour days, with maybe 2-3 hours round trip commute, then you have to get coffe in the morning and a beer or a sandwich at night, there isn't time for much more than 6. There is nothing like going working for 13 hours at 10 miles a minute- how many scenes do we have today? 15? Jezus - , then an hour and a half drive at 75 miles an hour and then when you get home if you go to sleep RIGHT NOW! you will get 5 hrs. That sucks ;-)

Feast or famine - sometimes 8 hours, other times 7 hours or 6 hours. Seems to depend on a combination of the day's workload, the relaxation quotient, and how much noise the wife is making somewhere else in the house ;))

Naps are super cool "detach and catch up" opportunities...

When I do sleep its like a cat, sorting out unusual sounds all the while. Slightest strange or threatening sound and I'm up and "ready to rumble". That's simply a survival trait developed during a solid year in a live fire war zone (Viet Nam).

When you really need it, sleep is way delicious!

shhhh....let's hope we don't wake up Jarred or he will miss his one hour sleep allowance for the whole week :)
