How far is Epic in the tatoo program? Was it 2 stages and after that its realeased for red one owners and then for mortals? :torsten_violent-smi

Nobody knows nothing..

We do know that Ted said SS is prepping to shoot his movie with Epic cameras. We know that Ted said they expect to "learn a lot" from that shoot, and that AFTER that shoot would would have something to say.

From this, I can gather that the Tattoo program has more than a month to go. Which means we're looking at the end of Oct or early November before we move on.

Ain't no way cameras are coming this year folks.

Jay

PS: I'm still guessing!

That was more or less my take on it, after reading Ted's post. Although I suppose, if not too much more work is required post the SS shoot, that an optimistic view might still see the first Epic's trickle out by November/December.

OK: Mark will get his Epic this year, and rest of the Proletariat in 2011.

How am I going with my guess, Mark?

LOL Proletariat - that's a good one. No, we are all equals, except hyper Mark happened to run a lot faster. Lim

you are giving me some hope Mark hehe. my r1 Serial #102 for my first epic.. so considering jim owns 1-5.. im in the under 100 club..and who knows who in that under 100 club went for stage 2 vs stage 3 tradein..

can't wait to find out what my epic serial will be. =)

Some times I understand this negative thinking, but some time I just don't!!

I know the Epic stage II will be this year, and chances are so will be the Scarlet to make after a very Merry Christmas ;), why I know this? Because Jim give no indications of been otherwise, and mentioned more then once that it is his goal to get them out before the end of the year.

The fact that I'm waiting for mines so that I can finally get on that Plain back to Italy is an other story all together, hehe.

I bet Mark already has his Epic. That's my guess. But the rest of us, (probably including the rest of the tattoo folks) will have to wait a while longer.

I agree, nothing will ship until 2011.

I think it's important to note that I can't picture RED going back on hardware manufacturing this late in the game. If any show stopping bugs in the hardware end were to show up we wouldn't be hearing about firmware issues or sending Cameras out with S.S.

So they are probably already well into manufacturing by this point. At least of the chips. I doubt Soderbergh is going to find a bug in the hardware. So once the production testing gets the OK I would bet that it's just down to firmware and drivers. I would imagine ergonomics might come into play so they will still need to make bodies but I would think physical bits can be turned around pretty fast.

My pre- bug prediction was by Christmas for #1008. During the squash period, it felt much farther off and I was thinking "NAB", but the feedback team is clearly bashing the shit out of these cameras at an impressive rate.

consider that Fincher's film has wrapped and is ready for release, and he is likely on to the next EPIC thing, Mark's team has likely shot several features, and probably done it in harsh environments in 3D, etc., etc.,...and Pirates 4...and probably lots of other projects that we haven't heard about...Michael Cioni's been pumping the wi-fi muscle, which can only mean EPIC joy with data management...RED STUDIOS Hollywood sounds busy with Dino-caliber shoots.

we are in good hands.

my bet is that, if Jim is busying himself with the fun, visionary side of things like HDR mode, then operations and production are well in hand, and Santa Jim will land an EPIC in my stocking this year. i'm sure he would like nothing better than to spread the Christmas joy. i believe him when he says that production will ramp quickly. i waited six months between the first REDs and my RED, and I'm betting that the production time will be around 66% faster than the speed of RED ONE.

as long as we are playing the prognostication game.

There's some good optimism on this thread. I like! I'm braced if not Christmas/EOY (lot's of holiday's this time of year to pass the time) it must be NAB 2011, which is a short hop away. Either way, It's all good. Definitely don't want to be THAT GUY that gave up too early. Timelines? Eh, We know, they know.

When Epic ships, I'm just tryin to picture Jim with a huge (I told you so grin) and a Altadis' Behike to boot. Now that's a good look!
