How do I assign camera shooting presets to buttons or soft keys on Scarlet?

I would like to assign camera settings to either a side handle button or touch screen soft key like 29.97 fps, ISO 800, 1/48 shutter, 5600k, 4K, RC 7:1 (and some others) so that can instantly change back and forth. How do I do that?

Thanks to anyone who can help.

For much more infomation on this topic please see this earlier post of mine: Customizing your camera with build 3.2.x

Longer answer:
Assuming you already made the presets, go to the key mapping dialog (Menu > Settings > Setup > Keys). Push the button on the camera you would like to map to your preset. Map that key to the action "Apply Preset: xxx", where "xxx" is the name of the preset you have already created.

Hi Trent and Terry: Thank you for those details. I have not yet created the presets. I haven't started at all. So, I'll read the links you provided above and if I still don't get it, I'll post another question. I am a Red newbie. Used to shooting on an Arri 35-3 or a Sony EX-3 (and many other Sony ENG cameras). So, still trying to figure it out. Would be nice if I could set up my settings via the touchscreen and then just hold down a button to save, like a car radio. :)

Hi Trent and Terry:

I downloaded the Red_Key_Mapper and read Customizing your Camera. It helps a little, but still not sure what I'm doing.

Can you tell me how to do this from scratch?...

Make a preset called "Standard" which includes these shooting attributes: 29.97fps/iso800/48th sec shutter/5600k/4K/RC 7:1

Then assign that to a touch screen soft key (my preference) or a button on the side handle (second choice).

Once I know how to do that, I'll create one for "Time-lapse" etc.

My goal is to have 3-4 soft keys or buttons I can push to instantly tell the camera what basic shooting settings I want, then point and shoot.

I apologize for sounding so helpless. :)

I appreciate any help you can provide.

Hi Martin

1. Set your camera to : 29.97fps/iso800/48th sec shutter/5600k/4K/RC 7:1
2. Go to MENU > PRESETS, then click "CREATE..." Button
3. Give your preset a name : "Standard"
4. Go to 'PROJECT' tab
from list on left side select and add (using left to right arrow) : Exposure Time target Project + Frame Rate + REDcode + Record Format + Recording Options, Sensor Framerate + HDR Mode (to make sure it is disabled when when you'll apply this preset whatever the original mode was) + any other parameters you want to add.
5. Go to 'LOOK' Tab, add ISO + FLUT + Color Space + Gamma Space + any other relevant setting that you wish to set or reset when applying this preset...
6. You can look around in Display or System tabs if you wish to add current Frame Guides or Fan Settings.
7. press "CREATE" button on top right

(find the newly created preset in the list on left (should be the last one if you named it 'Standard') and save it to the SSD by using arrow key again if you wish to archive it and copy it to your computer so you do not have to recreate it next you'll upgrade your camera firmware)

8. Go to MENU > SETTINGS > SETUP > KEYS
9. Click the 'SOFT KEYS' tab
10. Choose a soft key (A-D or 1-4) and from the drop down menu select 'Apply Preset : Standard"

11. close MENU and you are done !

Mikael:

Thank you for the excellent step by step instructions for creating presets. It works! Outstanding!

I appreciate you taking the time to offer your expertise.

Merci!

You are welcome... Always happy to help out new users.

It is not so complex once you've done it and understood the process.

There are a few more advanced techniques to create stuff like a toggling preset (for example one single key to switch between two sets of settings) but that is covered in Trent's link posted above once you feel like diving into this...

Is it possible to assignate a blackshading calibration into a softkey?
