  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hint...

BOMB EVF pricing and availability will be announced on Oct. 30th.

The Bomb EVF is in not tied to the release of the brains or the modules, as the BOMB EVF is backwards compatible ( i.e. works great on RED ONE, and is currently out in the wild being tested by beta testers on RED ONEs right now) so the release date will be when it is ready, not when everything else is done :)

Thanks Jarred! I had hoped this was the case...

these manufacturers continue to take their customers on the cheesy way of keeping obsolescence essential.

Hi Carsten,

Maybe we are talking about different things...

But I am still using a Bronica film camera which I bought in the 1980s.

And still using a Canon 350D, which is quite a few years old now.

Neither of these are obselete for me. They are both very useful tools.

Just because a manufacturer brings out 20 new camera models, does not affect the usefulness of its older models. It only affects those people who feel that they must have the latest thing out.

Hi Antony,

How much motion have you been shooting with these cameras lately?

Why did you buy the 350 and not the 300? What did you feel when the 400 and the 450 were released?

I did not question usability of 'old' gear. I have quite some bits of old gear in use myself. I am questioning product and marketing politics.

I'm fine with the work in progress version if you change your minds.

I think he's referring to the REDOne getting a hardware change after launching and feeling obligated to upgrade all cameras previously sold.

The volumes that they'll be dealing with this time would I imagine be cost prohibitive if they find something in the hardware they want to change. If it were just software I would happily be a guinea pig as well, but not if they're concerned that the hardware would be upgraded 3 months after I accepted delivery.

Hi Antony,

How much motion have you been shooting with these cameras lately?

Hi Carsten, maybe that is where I misunderstood you. I thought you were talking about camera manufacturers in general, not just motion.

True, I only use the Canon 350D for timelapse motion, not video (obviously). I use my Sony Z1 or my Red One (or for an upcoming concert I will rent several Sony EX3) for motion.

Why did you buy the 350 and not the 300? What did you feel when the 400 and the 450 were released?

I was offerred a good deal on the 350, and it did what I needed.

I didn't "feel" anything when the 400 and 450 were released. In fact, I don't even know what the 400 is. And I don't care, because the 350D did what I wanted it to when I bought it, and it still does what I want it to now.

I did not question usability of 'old' gear. I have quite some bits of old gear in use myself. I am questioning product and marketing politics.

I understand that. But what I am saying is that so long as you buy something which does what you need it to, then it shouldn't make any difference if something "better" comes along.

Thursday 29th October...

Silence. Not a sound...

Tick tick tick tick...

I think this should definitely be based on Aussie time... ;)

Seconded on the Aussie time!

Is there any time set for the news on friday that I have missed? I would bet late on friday=) Would suck to not be on the forum when they drop the news.

To all the Negative Nancy's out there...
Come Oct. 30th, I'd rather not read that you're shocked and appalled about the wait for Scarlet.

Remember, release dates are the only bad news. In the meantime, get your hands on a camera and shoot!

I for one admire Jim's restraint so far. The last couple of times that announcements were to be made he had a lot of trouble keeping it quiet.

Of course, since specifications and release dates can change, why not the ' press release' dates? Hint... Hint...

Nicelly done Mr. Jannard...
I'm waiting...
