  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hint...

In between shoot great pictures (stills or movies) with your R1 (buy it if you still don't owe it) and have a fun.

Just my 2 Austrian schillings.

I've been stuck with a Konica-Minolta Dimage 200 (go figure) and a JVC HD10u (720 30p) that I haven't yet upgraded because I have been waiting to buy a Scarlet.

It feels like sticking to a 1985 Datsun car because you have been waiting for the new Volvo C30 to start selling hehe :undecided:

Really looking forward to Trick or treat day!

GPS?

GPS?

New specs and features on the 30th... i hope the new redcams will have gps locators inside for security!!! or the red remote could come with 3G gsm chip!! it would be great to be capable of turning on the camera remotly from my 4K iphone with image ;)....just dreaming

I really hope the RED electronic lenses are announced with the S35 stuff and we don't have to wait for the FF35 brains to see those released.

I'm quite excited for the October 30th update, and I actually kind of hope to see a big (9 months at least) hit to the schedule as I just picked up a 7D and a bunch of kit to make it go vroom and I likely won't replenish the old savings account for 6-9 months with the some what down market for my paid services.

I'm in the same boat. I haven't picked up a 7D just yet, but I want to get one to fool around with for several months.

What other stuff did you get with you kit Andrew?

I finally purchase an HD monitor, some new mics including some wireless lavs, a bunch of new canon glass, that sort of stuff. I mean, all but the 7D will be usable when RED starts shipping....but it was stuff I probably would have held off on in favor of a barebones scarlet setup and just added in later.

As it is now, if the schedule does produce a fairly large slip into mid-late 2010, I will definitely be in a financial position to chunk the 7D and go RED right when the new cams start shipping. If they ship much earlier than that I will just have to stay away from Reduser until I get the cash or else I'll be really sad :001_tongue:

Thanks Jim for your honesty. It is understandable logic of development. I will go along because my R1 is great camera. Thus, I am ready for Scarlet and Epic. Bring it on!

Just going to throw these out there if you can answer any.

Will module pricing be included in the October 30th announcement?

Will additional info about 2/3" mini-primes be included? (for some at the scarletuser crowd)

Other than pricing, will there be "complete" info available on the modules included in the 30th announcement? By "complete" I mean, exactly what modules we will have to choose from, and, at least basic spec-sheets for each module?

Thanks, much.

later,
Jason

Hehe. It was an 86 VW Golf how did you know? :D

Jim, please it will be nice to hint new guys who do not have a REDONE already how long we might have to wait to get the Epic-x.

Also, is 30th gonna be a cut off date for us to to buy the REDONE in order to qualify for the Epic upgrade.

Hmm, all others could and should wait for the 30th, but at least Lonzos last question is in fact one that deserves an answer soon ;-)

Oct. 30th is not the cutoff date to buy a RED ONE. That wouldn't be fair. RED ONE owners will have priority over non-RED ONE owners for priority.

Jim

I am totally happy with my Red, so I can definitely wait through any scheduling hit that has occurred. Whatever the issue(s), the team will get it right.

Thanks jim for the timely reply.

I guess my other question would be If I buy REDONE now and then place my order before someone that has had the REDONE before me, will I get my order filled in before that person or do I have to wait for them just cos the purchased REDONE before me. I just wanna know how orders will be filled among owners of REDONE.

Interesting question. What if Lonzo buys a R1 now, instantly orders an EPIC-X as soon as it is possible to do so. Then some earlier R1 owner decides to upgrade to EPIC-X later, but before Lonzo advances to delivery. Any idea yet how these 'interlaced' queues will be handled?
Not that I would be in any of those queues, for now, just curiosity...

Say, two people want to buy EPIC at the same future time. One just orders the EPIC, the other first orders a RED One just to get the EPIC-X faster (and cheaper). He would not even want to actually receive the R1. Will the last one have an advantage?
At some not too distant time, the EPIC-X trade-in offer would have to be stopped, right? But not the 30th?

I guess that a lot of people are now waiting to EPIC/Scarlet announcements - but will still order R1 once they have more info about DSMC. Just because it will still take time to deliver quantities of EPIC and Scarlet and even then they would be in some sort of beta status for some time while the R1 now can be used safely for production.

Jim, on a previous post that is now closed, you mentioned;

"We have had MANY requests from RED ONE customers to create an option where they can keep their RED ONE and still buy an early EPIC-X.... We will create another option for you to consider on the 30th."

Jim

Curious if this option will be the same cost as buying a Red One refurb with new sensor (I assume you will be selling these and not keeping them on a shelf), or is there a different breakdown.

I guess there are many variables for you to consider - sales of Epic, Scarlet, old Red's and what is attractive to us buyers. The good thing about this other option is you remove one step of you having to resell these items, and for us owners, we know what the camera has been through and if it's been well maintained.

I'd love to keep my Red One as a second camera to the Epic, but also will need to consider the Scarlet as a B-Camera, perhaps even a C-Camera.

Options are great, but in the end economics and value will dictate many decisions. So far though, the value of my investment into Red One has been phenomenal - keep it up.

Cheers,
Dale
