  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hint...

That said, I think it's a safe bet that the FF35 and other Monstro-based cameras are probably still a good ways off in the future. I can't wait to get my hands on that 645 though.

I'm not sure about that. RED seemed to get the Mysterium-X sensor in shooting order pretty darn quick. It is the complicated ASICs and modular DSMC system that have caused the delay. They are designing and perfecting thousands of parts right now but once they are done the Monstro will be just one part that can be popped in to an existing system. The electronics in the brain will have to be juiced up as well but the design is probably similar.

You know you want that 645....

I think the rate at which Red can deliver new products is likely to accelerate. Especially once the DSMC platform finishes it's beta stage.

Red One was digging the hole... S35 DSMC is pouring the foundation.... after that it's just building the house.

Ok my metaphor doesn't work... cough... What I'm saying Jeff is I wouldn't expect two years between each brain or module upgrade. Right now they are developing all of their technologies all at the same time. But the modular nature of the system will eventually allow them to encapsulate their efforts very effectively into incremental improvements.

Justin, you're probably not too far off... New circuitry and ASICs will have to be designed to accommodate the larger sensors, or so it seems. It should go a lot quicker, given that it's an evolution of what is being done now. Don't forget that the Monstro models were originally scheduled to release anywhere from 8 to 12 months after EPIC-S35. And that was just a target date.

I know this is complete speculation. But I don't see anything that says these other models will be here any quicker than originally expected, especially with this delay. Jim warned us of the delay a few months back, this is completely expected. And I expect it to push the progress on all the camera brains, and related development programs, to a later date.

All I'm saying is that those who want their FF35 fix within a month or two of RED releasing the EPIC-S35, they may be waiting a while longer.

I want EPIC 645 now as much, or more, than anybody else. Believe me. Or maybe I'm just trying to convince myself it's a ways off so I can better cope with the anxiety of waiting. Hehe...

Ian, I agree with you. I wasn't saying they're 2 years away. But I'd be surprised if the 645 releases in less than 6 months from when Epic-X starts shipping. Hopefully they prove me wrong. Please Jim, prove me wrong!!!! :)

Ok Jim, Here we go again...

count me in; my two bodies can´t wait fly to California. Wellcome EPIC-X.

works for me. cant wait to hear what you all have in store...

I think the truest words ever stated by Jim
were about the complexity of this system
Justin and Jeff and Ian Bloom all represent this
We can only begin to fathom the work and
planning that goes on behind the Red (Wonka) factory doors

What you have shown us so far Jim is incredible
good luck with everything else
I cant imagine how hard it must be
I cant wait :coolgleamA:

100% with you there! I agree that more 6 months but less then 2 years after the S35 ships is probably our best bet. :smile5:

is it weird that i actually dreamed that they had released the cameras but i couldn't buy one and i was freaking out.... haha, funny but true!

Maybe we can have a tailgate party in the Lake Forest Parking lot. fun.

I'll bring the Crown Royal... which is coincidently made 45 min from my house....and maybe a keg of say...Alexander Keith's Amber Ale?

Knowing Jim, he will probably be hovering over his mouse ready to hit the "Post" button on Thursday night at midnight. Or at least I hope so. :sifone:

I hope so too - I love RED's late night announcements because they're in the early afternoon here! It'd suck if they did a 10 or 11am announcement, because I'd have to stay up to 4am...

If nothing else we know that everyone at RED is as excited about everything as we are!!

...Except they get to be excited around the cameras all day...mind you I'm sure that comes with its own demons...

Thanks for updating us Jim - it just shows how much of a class act you guys are - and how well you treat us as customers and members of a community.

It just blows my mind how much RED is doing 'behind the scenes'. I come here multiple times a day to get updates with what's going on with the new cameras but I forget how much else is going on, like the RED RAY and all of the implications of making a codec that's so efficient - and building that place in Vegas (which I hope might be open to visitors?) - and basically changing the way the world understands image capture.

It's been so fun to watch this materialize from the DVXuser days when I was a student - to the eve of this huge announcement to the next generations of these cameras - now I have a small company and I'm excited to really become a proud RED owner.

SO excited for the 30th.

Thanks for doing what you do.

Jon

What is changing is that we are about to sell new cameras to many more new customers (that's the plan anyway). We don't believe that most of them will fight through a beta program and update their firmware on a weekly basis... or stand for "trust us... we are almost there". We need to have a bulletproof program with a camera that works and features in place.

Makes me feel even more privileged to have been along for the ride with the R1 - it's been fun.

Can't wait for these new cameras to start shipping but for me too the time taken just gives me more time to save.

Hopefully by "late" he means December of 09 or January of 2010, and not Fall 2010 or something absurd like that.

Dear Lord, I go to church every Sunday, and you know I don't ask for much...

I hope that the cameras are ready sooner rather than later as well, but I'm not going to complain about whatever release dates that are given even if they are much further off than we had hoped. I realize that not being a current red one owner automatically puts me at the back of the line anyway, and with all the people saying they will be buying multiple cameras from RED, i expect it to be a very long line.

I am excited at least to know at some point I am going to have a rock solid camera produced by a company that has always kept an open dialogue with its customers. I think it's the coolest thing in the world how Jim comes on the forum to talk to us. Can't wait until I can finally show my support with my wallet.

The perfect release time for me would be around Jan-Feb '10. But, more than knowing the release dates, I am really looking forward to hearing some price quotes on the gajillion accessories RED will be enticing me to buy. :hurray:

Yeh I'm hoping to hear some pricing on the accessories too. Hopefully we will come the end ofthe month :001_cool:
