  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hint...

Jim,

The transparency is amazing and much appreciated. Can't wait.

I'm sure that this philosophy change makes a lot of good business sense; the people who will do the bulk of the camera purchasing won't be the camera loving, knowledgeable, image-quality oriented purists that spend all of their time on this forum but rather the people with big amounts of money, like producers, who expect the camera to work perfectly and simply the first time.

Can't wait for the 30th. Thanks.

Is this new release schedule on Mischief Night or Devil's Night? Hope a treat and not a trick! lol:emote_popcorn:

I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing.
For one thing, this just means those of us with limited disposable income will have more time to put money aside. [...] there's no such thing as too much testing when you're going for bulletproof. [...] Whatever the schedule turns out to be, I'm sure most of us will be happy in the end.

As an engineer in my day job, amen.

Thanks Jim and the RED team for the innovation, honesty, and transparency.

I suspect there are many of us out there who are self-funded producers who are holding out for a real low-cost cine solution -- and I don't mean "cheap", I mean "excellent value" due not only to disruptive thinking but also a lack of non-engineering-driven, established-market-protecting, limitations.

Something like a mid/hi-end Scarlet system is what I've been wishing for for 10 years. This will allow me to step up to better glass, follow-focus, limited DOF, and in general a more cine-style way of shooting without having to resort to something like the (admittedly excellent) Panasonic AG-HPX300 mated to a Letus adapter -- while retaining the professional ergonomics and audio that the not-so-ready-for-primetime video-capable DSLR sorely lack. I mean, I would go dual-system for audio and seriously consider a DSLR, but coming from ENG-style video camera ergonomics, the DSLRs worry me, even with the rigs.

Argg... my post got a bit long here.

Thank you RED, and take your time! ASICs are hard. :smile5:

Thank you very much for the update. I'm really looking forward to the announcement.

great

great

i welcome the delay. Can you keep the eye candy coming, I was enjoying the photos and dreaming of what I can do with it..

Remember to keep the prices low..

Cheers

This is the correct path ... you are the leader ... take us to the promised land.
We see in politics when the leader gets his directions from the followers, disaster results, every time. Get it right and those that follow will be loyal repeat customers.

No worries!!! I am perfectly happy and profiting from my Red One!!! Yes, as a fully addicted rez whore I want the Epic but take your time to get it right!!! I will be here patiently waiting

Cheers,
Prio

Thanks for the post Jim.....It's been a grand ride and I'm still holding on!

Dave

Since RED is going for full quality build, I think that should not only be internally/software based, but also on the hardware side of the camera's. We have the camera for a year now and are very happy with the results it gets us. I do think that the way the camera and its accessories feel, has some room for improvement though. The camera body itself is like a bomb, great. But when I press the power button, it doesn't really feel 'Volkswagen' to me. Our joystick button all of a sudden fell of for no other reason than that we gave it a spin. The RED arms that hold up the LCD, kept turning loose for the first months until we finally got it rusty enough to stay put. These may seem like details, but some serious German engineering would really help in RED being a full quality brand in all respects. Make the new cameras rugged from start to finish and keep up the good work!

Henk
(no I am not German, yes I drive Volkswagen)

red.com has become a staple of my daily life,,, I check back every day to see if something is new on Scarlet and Epic, and the good ol' red one even : ).

But to hear that I am going to be able to HEAR on the 30th of this month almost makes me want to have a party!...

Congrats on being a force for awesomeness in this industry Jim, Congrats.

I'm going to hibernate till the 30th now.

AHHHHHHHHHHH!

Thanks Jim. Glad to have a date to look forward to. The release definitely can't come soon enough, but I understand your new philosophy and I'm sure we won't be disappointed. I'm one of the new RED customers you referred to, and although I am anxious for the Scarlet release, I understand wanting to do it right the first time and I'm sure I'll be happier for it. As long as I don't have to wait until 2012! :001_unsure:

Mister Jannard,
I think most of Company managers should consider you as an example. Creating a climate of real confidence and respect 'tween company and (a bit more than) customers is how things should allways go. I'm into Red world since a year and I never wanted to trust a product that much(even if I've allways been satisfied with my stuff). Sothat no one is disappointed, please just do what you all have to do !
Peace !^^

Literally got shivers when I read

"Relax" and 'Wildest Dreams"!!!

Not that i have any money sine I just bought #6732, but to be a part of the fun is great!

Now, off to my second "pro" shoot this weekend. with MY Red:) Man, it never gets old sayng "My Red One".

I totally understand this change. Makes sense, most people don't have the patience for the "open beta" approach.

I'm one of those new customers and I for one would have loved it though. Constantly trying out new tweaks, loading new firmware every couple of weeks.

Of course, I've been running Windows 7 since the spring, so I may be one of the crazies.
