  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

HERE... Goes the RAVEN's market (Smh)

In the film days it was 1% so it's going back to that- I guess where it should be ..... The virtues of the free market... supply....demand..you get the picture...

Isn't that just for the camera? The reason being you need to buy film and lab development, which is gone now and the technology is much more complex and advanced than a film camera. The price need to be reasonable compared to the investment. This price isn't reasonable in that regard. Competition can be good but not all the time. Thing is that many people who rent gear don't know what the gear really is. A "Red" is a "Red", many don't even know the difference between a Raven and a Weapon. So in the end, cheap Raven rentals might even hurt Weapon rentals. "How can THIS Red be so expensive to rent while THAT one isn't?"

If the item you rent out is very common on the market (basically every RED camera model) it's generally 1%, the more rare it is the higher the percentage.

People who own exclusive sets of anamorphics charge whatever they like cause there's just no one out there who can compete with them and people still rent their stuff.

haha, this is hilarious, not so much the rental but the reactions. you can rent it for whatever you want, just so you know that when you go into this lower rental market your equipment is used my less experienced people, sometimes not even professional AC's, so expect the worst and hope for the best! i personally will never rent mine out without me or a professional AC and will never advertise it to the masses, i need it in top condition with no risk when i use it.
this camera from the beginning was never a stand alone rental, but more of a bcam along with a weapon pkg or an owner op situation.
i added it to my weapon pkg for my tv show and im getting $800 a day, no questions asked, but im the DP.

edit: as well, mine also come with much more support, including 3 512 minimags, which i learned was the bare necessity for going into a professional shoot. i couldnt of had less.

yea its interesting, some of the companies i work for have a budget for camera and they don't mind what camera it is as long as i stay in budget. its up to the dp to choose the camera. Im sure other Dp's they work with get similar prices for their Mark III's as my Dragon. heh

Rental prices have always been from 1% to 5%. It's in the standard range.

The problem is if you want a bigger camera kit, I'm pretty sure the renter will have to subrent at a price. It won't be as low. And getting the right kit is often a better deal when prices start higher.
And of course, little companies often let their gear rot with time.

I was referring to 35mm cameras and that the price of such a camera can't be as high as digital cinema since it's only part of the cost of shooting 35mm. So it's no wonder that the 35mm cameras had a lower rental price than camera packages today.

I think a big problem with lower rental prices is that part of the rental price is to get back the investment, the rest is for the tear down of the equipment. If the price is too low you might only get enough to cover such tear downs and replacements and you won't ever get anything back on your investment. Of course you can charge as low as you like, but in the end it will hurt both others who rent out their cameras and yourself.
