$136 /day or weekend (NYC)??? (lol)... I am not going to say much about this.... however I'm just happy that I stop renting my gears three years ago. My EPICs, Ravens and whole production is only for my business use...

Good deal, thats well below %2 cost per day (especially with the beta discount)

I typically see rentals at 3%~5% cost as their day rate

Hummm... I know times have changed, however I would still respect my fellow user's investment and keep it 3%+

While we are at it, I am NYC based as well and will be renting my kit around the same price WITH lenses. I am fully insured so it doesn't matter. I am happy to help fellow junior filmmakers with cheap prices.

In the film days it was 1% so it's going back to that- I guess where it should be ..... The virtues of the free market... supply....demand..you get the picture...

You get a camera to USE it, not rent it out and/or complain when someone offers an unbeatable price on a new kit. Go out(side), shoot and don't be concerned with this crap.

Hey Kwan, how are you today? After posting the listing on sharegrid it is now at 200 a day, or, with sharegrid's 20% discount, comes out to 160. Not sure what you're insinuating by posting this thread. As a note, since this thread will now become publicity for my listing on sharegrid, (by the way, it is the ONLY Red Raven on New York's Sharegrid and it's super cheap!) I will stress that I will not consider shipping the raven out of state just yet. I may consider it in the future, but I would only like to conduct rentals face to face, locally as of now. Thank you.

Edited the listing to reflect limited availability as well as everyone's concern of destroying the raven market. Long live the Raven. Now 240 a day...

The gear rental business is expensive and complex. Market saturation is a challenge, not just RED gear but cameras at every price point. The reaction of people who have been there and seen that is just because you can doesn't mean you always should. Really difficult to be profitable in the gear rental business, it's very capital intensive.

Anyone self insured and attempting to rent their own gear, I would encourage having a frank conversation with your insurance carrier about rental policy, particularly given the demographic of the rental user and the smaller camera weight profile potentially puts the camera in harms way.

Agreed, I have 4 Ravens on the table (since month)... I am Times Square (NYC) based as well, You don't want me to open a thread "RAVEN $1 a day for Brooklyn Residents", don't you? This is called crap is happening, and crap will continue to happen (Jus' jokin' - lol)

Nice Luke (glad you understood)

Kwan, your signature says "Rent 5K for $500/day - NYC".

Proportionally, isn't your rental price the same as Luke's?
Nope (lol),,, it was MX (body only) and after fewwww year (lol).. Signature changed..

I sincerely agreed, however $136/day (or weekend) NOW? (May be after summer is fine)... Raven still have looong Pre-Ordered list...

+1

Edit:

Lets Keep It Funny Fellas''

The reaction of people who have been there and seen that is just because you can doesn't mean you always should.

+1 on this. Not sure what you're gaining with such low rates. By the time the camera is paid off, it's probably so wrecked it's time to buy a new one.

Oh'' CRAP Thomas.... Crap has always happened... my invoice says something sliiiiightly different (lol)

Lets Keep It Funny Fellas''... While I gotta look for another box - lol

This thread is going down hill fast.

But the point is that not everybody buys their cameras solely for shooting with them. For many people, renting the cameras out is a big part of how they plan on paying the camera back. Many business are built on not only shooting but renting cameras. If somebody comes in and wants to rent a Raven for $200 with lenses and we advise against it we are saying so for multiple reasons.

One reason being that we are looking out for you. At $200 a day, assuming the standard 3 day weeks, It would take approximately 30 fully rented weeks to pay off a appropriate camera package. A Raven will not rent out like that, and even if it does you'll surely see a lot of damage to the camera caused by people renting packages in that price bracket. Your investment will never pay itself off. If you're looking for extra cash by renting out the camera, why not charge the little extra and get extra cash? And you'll know the camera is with somebody you know who will respect the camera. If you know a student or a friend personally and you want to give them a deal, then charge them whatever you want.

The other reason we advise against it is that there are some people out there who may have squeezed out enough money to buy a Raven with the plan to get some of that money back by renting it out. It is disrespectful to those people to undercut them so much that they can't make any money off that investment. At $200 a day with lenses you're not even close to a 1% daily rental value, when you should be in the 3-5% daily rental value.

This should pretty much be something everyone thinking of renting that cheap should read and reconsider

Actual rental houses are a different story, because they screen their clients and offer comprehensive packages and support (and the price is definitely not 150/day) but in general, IMO the private owner rental market has become a race to the bottom. This is because the average cost of a camera package has never been lower and there are much more people out shooting and renting. Supply and demand.

Those $150/day sharegrid clients are mostly students and event shooters that won't handle the gear well and it'll be scratched or damaged quickly. All for that measly day rate? Not worth it.

Kwan, I do not frankly care how many Ravens you have, will have, or had plus the fact that you're "Times Square" based (oh boy, oh boy city lights!) The fact that you're attempting to make jokes and taking pictures of packages speaks to your maturity (or lack there of).

Fact being, who ever owns this cameras can rent for whatever they want. If you're worried about these people cutting into RED's rental market - then just do a better job of promoting your rentals at your prices.
