UPDATE:

The Epic had an old revision of a circuit board that had compatibility issues with the newest firmware. Everything is working like a dream now and RED Europe came through and fixed it up quick under warranty!

So if you've got an early revision of an Epic-X, there might be a bigger chance for problems...

---------

Our RED Epic X got sent in last week to REDEurope to get it's fans fixed after they stopped working. Nothing major and they upgraded firmware as well.

The camera came back working great with firmware v4.0.18 in our camera prep yesterday and I handled it over today to a rental client and now that they're 500km away already BOOM!

my client gets this:

They're able to see perfect playback of old files, have tried all possible power sources, have tried stripping it down to just LCD and RED Brick, etc etc, and we keep getting this.

SO:

Can see old files and play the back from Redmag. All Menus work, everything seems fine. HDMI out and live view just has these stripes though and recorded files look the same.

Anyone get this?

You mean using the Restore system command in the menu?

Yes. Or when powering up, hold down Power Button for at least 15 secs or more - fan may cycle a few times - keep holding it down until the fan comes on 100% Full Speed and then let go.

This is a factory reset, so all settings will revert back to factory defaults. Remember to check and adjust all your shooting settings afterwards!

This just happened to someone in Russia with 3 of his 4 Epics I think - look for the thread in this Epic forum and seeif he has any updates.

Hopefully you've already raised a Support ticket with Red directly?

Brendan. Thanks man. Checked that thread and no answer.

My Epic is off to London tomorrow to have them take a look at it. Bloody pisses me off that I just got it back a few days ago and now it's off again.

Well, let's hope they fix it so that I won't have to keep sending it in.

Feel sorry for you.
It's a bit scary, far too many of these kinds of errors lately. Please let us know what the error was when it comes back.

I'll let you know what they say about the error. It's quite terrifying since I usually adopt firmware very late just to avoid these kinds of incidents. Not very confidence inspiring. Would love to be able to trust my camera as much as I trust it delivers gorgeous results when used to its benefits

Sorry to hear that - also, was yours an upgrade from Scarlet or purchased new?

Hey!! Just got the Epic back and the problem was an old revision of a circuit board that had compatibility with the new firmware. Interesting issue, so if you've got an old Epic-X there's a bigger chance of something going wrong.

RED Europe took fantastic care of us though and everything was covered under warranty. Thank you RED for speedy assistance!!
