Hey guys,

Sort of at a loss for words at this point, but I am producing a feature that was supposed to be shooting on the RED camera. The camera was shipped last week, and should have been here yesterday. To our surprise, Fed Ex has informed us it's probably gone. We need a camera. We're a smaller $450,000 indie production shooting in NY and St. Louis. We have money for a package, but not a ton. We are coming around to the fact that we may have to shoot on something besides the RED now, which is upsetting to me on a number of levels, but we are hoping someone out there has a camera they can rent to us starting as soon as tomorrow and as late as next tuesday that we can rent through May 26th. Our previous package was for about 10 grand and included the base production pack, EVF, 3 batteries, 4 CF cards, and a red drive... not really expecting much here, because we know how good our deal was, but I figured it can't hurt to ask. We know the situation we're in now, and we're scrambling to find a solution. If anyone might know anything, and would be willing to work something out along these budget lines, you would have our eternal gratitude... there was no way to plan for what happened to us, and we'll figure something out cause we have to... but... yeah, if you're interested and can help, please get in touch with me. Thanks.

I don't have a camera yet but there are a few that do

Missouri:
redrocketpictures (Kansas City)
Jay A. Kelley (St. Louis)

New York:
Haskell (Brooklyn), www.haskellfilms.com
Offhollywood

I''m sure there are many others but these are close to your shoots.

Best of luck,

Frank

amazingly our camera magically arrived. I'll take this thread down when I get to the office. Don't know how it all happened but I'm very relieved. Just want to say a quick thanks to everyone who was willing to help out with our almost crisis and that got back to me so quickly... wanted to write this quick so no one wastes any of their time since our situation got resolved. You guys are the best, and I won't forget...

Once, back when I was an AC, I stopped by the office of a production company I had just worked for the week before.

They were on the phone with FedEx, trying to get last weeks film to the lab in Chicago. Apparently FedEx had lost the package...then two days later they found the box, open. Then two days after that found a couple loose cans of exposed...and put 2 and 2 together and realized tht those cans belonged to the lost shipment. A real mess.

To their credit eventually all the film made it and everything was fine. But I know a few people earned some grey hairs along the way.

Good for you the package eventually arrived. I can imagine you had a very bad sleep last night.
I immediatly checked the terms on this issue. I don't know how it works: does Red offer the most appropriate insurance for the trip of our Reds?

4. DELIVERY AND ACCEPTANCE – All product shipments shall be made “ex works” (Incoterms 2000) from the Red facility at Lake Forest, California, at which time title and risk of loss shall pass to the Buyer. Buyer shall be the importer of record for all purchased products. Licensing requirements for importation to non-U.S. countries is the sole obligation of the Buyer. In the absence of specific shipping instructions from the Buyer, Red will ship by the method it deems, in its soles discretion, most advantageous. Transportation charges will be collected prior to shipment. Unless otherwise indicated, Buyer is obligated to obtain insurance against damage to the product being shipped. Unless otherwise specified, products will be shipped in standard commercial packaging. When special packaging or export instructions are requested by the Buyer, any additional costs will be the responsibility of the Buyer.

Red shall use reasonable efforts to notify Buyer of any anticipated delays in delivery. Red will not be liable for any loss, damages or penalty resulting from delay in delivery.

If i'm in a different country or hell in US i would go and pickup up my red. I wont bother shelling out extra $1000 for travel. Screw Fed Ex or anyother company.

This is not possible. Red doesn't currently allow for pickup.

I insured mine before they shipped, best option really, you're going to have to insure them when they arrive anyway, what difference does a day or two make?

Good idea - how did you do it? I assume we are not talking about a "shipment insurance".

Wow.

Freight on Board or FOB shipping is standard for EVERY manufacturer from which I have ever purchased professional gear.

Notice that you said "our reds". Once it's sold, it is yours- and up to you to provide whatever insurance you deem necessary to cover YOUR exposure.

No offense intended, but do you want the guys from red to come shoot it for you to ensure that the shot is in focus, too? That might be best....

Once, FedEx lost a PowerMac for 4 days that magically reappeared from behind a conveyor belt. "How'd that get there???"... they only found it after I mentioned to the supervisor that given the value of the Mac, if it were stolen, it would amount to Grand Theft in most states. Poof, there it was.

ok red will insure it or i will insure it, doesnt matter, i`ll pay for it...

i thought i have to pay the bill + 600 for shipment directly to red...
if i want to insure it, do i have to drop a mail to red directly or do i have to tell it fed ex. i dont have a fed ex account, do i have to open one? Some enlighment would be cool regarding shipment, red, fed ex and insurance...

Ask RED to insure it if it is not, this is the normal procedure.
You pay for it though.

The declared value of any package represents our maximum liability in connection with a shipment of that package, including, but not limited to, any loss, damage, delay, misdelivery, nondelivery, misinformation, any failure to provide information, or misdelivery of information relating to the shipment. It is the shipper's responsibility to prove actual damages. Exposure to and risk of any loss in excess of the declared value is assumed by the shipper. You may transfer this risk to an insurance carrier of your choice through the purchase of an insurance policy. Contact an insurance agent or broker if you desire insurance coverage. WE DO NOT PROVIDE INSURANCE COVERAGE OF ANY KIND.
