Help!!! Fed Ex Lost Our Camera!!!

Really? Why is that? I was really thinking about going to get mine...

i'd imagine it's because it would get too crazy having multiple service points in the building. Also people showing up puts more pressure on them to deliver immediately, and would require more bodies. I'm just quoting as per Big Jon's note that they don't do willcall....i agree though lewis, i would love to go and pick my camera up in person....

I just talked to Dan. He said the shipments already are insured. Just for information.

In other news- more and more FedEx internal corporate videos are being shot in 4K, despite no one in the company actually owning a RED camera. Possible connection? :shiftyph34r:

Ha ha ha - is it the 84 or the 85..?

Wow.

Freight on Board or FOB shipping is standard for EVERY manufacturer from which I have ever purchased professional gear.

Notice that you said "our reds". Once it's sold, it is yours- and up to you to provide whatever insurance you deem necessary to cover YOUR exposure.

No offense intended, but do you want the guys from red to come shoot it for you to ensure that the shot is in focus, too? That might be best....

Once, FedEx lost a PowerMac for 4 days that magically reappeared from behind a conveyor belt. "How'd that get there???"... they only found it after I mentioned to the supervisor that given the value of the Mac, if it were stolen, it would amount to Grand Theft in most states. Poof, there it was.

I didn't mean to say that Red has to look after insurance.... I'm just pointing out that you have take care if Red doesn't. It's always wise to check on terms. Glad that someone put up the subject, maybe I wouldn't have thought of it.
Jonas, I don't understand your message. When our Reds are insured, it should be in the terms...
Maybe someone of Red could point his one out.

OK, here is the deal. RED does purchase insurance as part of shipping and handling with FedEx for each package we send. This protects (within limitations and guidelines all in fine print with FedEx somewhere) against loss or damage during shipping. RED also opts for a signature release requirement on all shipments where that option is available. BEWARE: If you have a signature release on file, FedEx will drop off your package without requiring a signature. The signature release is tied to the address, not the addressee so if a prior resident at your address had one on file, FedEx will probably still be honoring it. Always check with FedEx if they have a release on file at your address.

Also, although RED purchases the insurance and signature release through FedEx, if something happens to your package and a claim needs to be filed, it is the customer's responsibility to file the claim and deal with FedEx. Once the package leaves RED, it is the customer's property and the customer needs to deal directly with FedEx for this shipment.

I hope this clears up any confusion,
BC

My experience and that of many others (try google) is NOT to rely on additional insurance provided by the carrier.
They seem to have a policy to stall claims to the point of forcing you to take legal action.

Use your own camera insurance company who will proabably be cheaper and payout on a reasonable claim in a timely manner.
