  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Help A soldier out...

Why don't they send it separately. Do as not to hold up the main kit. People out there might have their own bettety or other.

You sure it's not held up on base due to the dsngerouse sticker? Can the battery he sent to you separately afterwards, if they can clear the rest?

If the battery were tested and it reached 100wh, even though it was 96wh, than legally it could even be deemed a 100wh battery, even though it's labeled differently.

Check if your base or transfer oversease, has a lesser limit on batteries. All the T sec stuff might limit things.

Well my TV has just gone dimmer. I was hoping it would hold out until a more descent TV model came out.

There was no DG sticker on the package because its under the 100 Watt Hr. Limit.

here's the thing...

RED puts a DG (Dangerous Good's) sticker on their package because the battery's it comes with the kit are 96 Watt hr. (RED is covering their ass because it's so close to 100 Watt Hrs).

Zeb, "room 237".

I'll spill Zeb, and others on that space flight subject before. In the 1950's research was done into advanced physics, anti gravity and space flight etc. It went quiet. In the 1960's the idea of scoop technology came up then solar wind technology sails out of that. Lately on an advanced spaceflight research initiative last decade, that got canned, a magnetic plasma reactor version was included. The most likely present hard science based technique of advanced propulsion. The program strangely canned.

Now, as far as who goes up to leave the planet you guys were talking about. How come Space X is not exploring these technologies instead, and other better options for world travel? Such as scram jet, and that laser relayed plasma propelled capsules (apart from the magneto plasma reactor above). Also the giant acceleration ring proposal instead of a rail gun, for payload deluvery. It seems a bit strange. In the past 2
75 % of the m bud has been in accounted for, enough left to run things in the last 50 years where this solar wind sale technology should have been running for decades, which is estimated to be over 1 million miles per hour. Enough to explore the solar system. A freind of mine in int was a freind of Stan Mayo. He said the technology examples were changed so as not too work.

So, Zeb, if you want to talk about these things, you are welcome to start a new thread and I am prepared to come along to discuss it in general, God willing.

I FINALY GOT IT!!!!!

I FINALY GOT IT!!!!!

It arrived the other day and I haven't been able to put it down!!!!

I'm so excited to start filming. I cant wait to get to Kosovo.... ( I can believe I just said that)

If you guys have any advice on good starter tips on RED use please don't hesitate to post or PM me.

I might be off line for a week or so. The transition to a new over seas duty station can sometimes take a while to happen.

Patrick,

Congrats on your new camera! :)

Use the videos from RED's site, and find some established RED YouTubers, try to learn what you can. Make sure you get your camera and kit insured!!!

Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

Cheers!

DUDE!!! That so awesome !!!!!!!!

I'm so happy for you, and the whole "KIT" just looks so good and all together/perfect; really does.

(My best friend's last post was in Kosovo so fingers crossed for things going as planned/pretty smoothly.).

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________

I'll definitely keep in touch. And really glad that RED could make this happen*; seems like a very good combination / win /win all round.

*"Red Spirit" and the Spirit of RED.

THANKS ERIC!!!

Dude I was shaking when I was un-boxing it!!! LOL

You got a friend in Kosovo? Hehehe. Who knows mybye we'll meet each other there. Do they do cinematography? I think ill be allowed to go out in town...?

I did take some test shots with my camera, testing the FPS, shutter angle, depth of field and so on...Ill post some test shot and grading if you like. But like I said it might be a little while till I get set in Kosovo.

Take care Eric!!!

Congrats Pactrick. Well you got a great location for a dragon sensor, helium too. I thought you might be dragging this around the desert.

Greetings from Ireland!!! Half way to my deployment destination. There happened to be an open Wi-Fi.

I was able to play with my RAVEN for a little bit before we had to get on a plane. Although I have to go threw my Public Affairs office before I can release any video ive taken from fort hood. I'm hopeing to get something out soon, but for those who've delt with public affairs you know it could be days or months before they scrub the footage and approve it for release.

Take care everyone, and I hope to talk to you soon.

Patrick

That's super... How you liking Raven so far?

For Public Affairs office, will that be on base or does it have to be sent out else where to a centralized facility. Just thinking do you have to bring Public Affairs personnel a case of beer and two cartons of cigarettes that you mysteriously happen to leave "by accident" at their desk or something (to get stuff quickly approved) ?

Also wondering can Public Affairs office after seeing you work for a few years pull you in on other projects or something? Don't know how that works (if they like what they see ? ).

Say hi to Ireland. Funny a lot of folks go through Reykjavik or RAF Mildenhall/Lakenheath in the U.K. as a jumping off point to final destination. Always amazed me how much clobber some of trhe US servicemen I knew were able to bring with them and fly around the world. I had fiend that took a 14 foot aluminum canoe /kayak fishing boat that he really liked on the plane with him from the U.K. back to the USA lol.

Good Luck Patrick!

I just touched base with the public affairs office about what I'm able and prohibited on filming here in Kosovo, and on base. Now I just have to convince my commander to let me do it, but I believe that the PAO will help me with convincing my commander =) The last thing the PAO wants is to silence the troops. Believe it or not the PAO encourages soldiers to be proactive and take pictures and stuff. They just don't want people taking pictures of anything sensitive.

As a civilian you can contact ANY post PAO and request access or ask to conduct a project. They might have some restrictions but I believe they can accommodate ya. As for seeing my work, I don't know if they would pull me in for say. But they might ask me (if cleared by my command) to work on a project.

HOW THE F did someone get away with bringing a KAYAK?!?!?! I had to hide my damn RAVEN from the inspectors to HAND CARRY IT on the plane!!! LOL

I LOVE MY RAVEN!!!! Although I'm not doing it justice right now. I'm still learning how it works and maybe using it at 75% of its potential.

That's so important and good to know too.

That's really excellent to know. In the past I have been approached by military integrators ad they see what we have as a solution to some pressing problems they have in hand... Although what they do with someone else's tech can be a extremely non transparent/opaque like on the other side of a big wall, on the whole the Gov/DOD type work seems to be more of a trust worthy system business-wise as opposed to the cut-throat world of private enterprise. In U.K. I had a number colleagues that were doing very well with VR based projects that involved all manner of military simulations. I have programmers in my little organization that are pretty much "Unitarian-Pacifists", so from time to time I'll try to convince them that getting the US DOD to blow up pixels rather than the RAF and "Bomber-Reap the Whirlwind-Harris" carpet bomb Hamburg or Dresden (circa WWII)... is a GOOD thing ;-)

As for seeing my work, I don't know if they would pull me in for say. But they might ask me (if cleared by my command) to work on a project.
That would be superb, the armed forces do have IMO really good routes for advancement but what really impresses me is how folks can be transferred from on outfit to another so really good and smart lateral moves are possible. So In your case Patrick it sounds like its about what you can make of things ... Which is superb IMO.

HOW THE F did someone get away with bringing a KAYAK?!?!?! I had to hide my damn RAVEN from the inspectors to HAND CARRY IT on the plane!!! LOL

He was retiring at the ripe old age of a 30-something (was a master Sargeant of all the electrical systems for the runways... Smart guy) ... With full military pension, and moved to Alaska (real hunting shooting fishing kind of guy) and was able to do a masters degree in business administration... So whole second career. So flying out of base with military Aircraft from the U.K. he could take his aluminum KAYAK with him... I don't know maybe he disguised it as part of the aircraft in the cargo hold lol (who knows)???

I LOVE MY RAVEN!!!! Although I'm not doing it justice right now. I'm still learning how it works and maybe using it at 75% of its potential.

Wow that's fantastic if you are only getting 75% of the camera after a few hours then you are doing waaaay better than most people ... "Shhhhhh shut up Eric!!!"... Not to say that RED or Raven is obstructive or difficult in any way but it's super to hear that you are getting on with it really well.

As far as Kosovo goes... My best friend in NM he was formerly chef for the army and was sent all over and then he joined the Bomb Squad (diffusing and destroying hazardous enemy ordinance and IEDs etc. in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere, really smart guy also, but his last post was in Kosovo and he got partially blown up diffusing a Bomb in a supermarket... He is very handsome/charismatic kind of guy looks like Johnny Depp with a few more scars etc... So he is a disabled Veteran, very cool, fun and interesting guy. Things in Kosovo have changed dramatically since then and it has been much more about "Winning the Peace". My brother was in and also working with the U.K.'s Blues and Royals ... Essentially the Royal Horse guards/Household Cavalry (who also do active duty and recognizance) [Prince Harry's division for a while]. Some of the British officers did a lot to earn and win the peace and win the respect of the locals there, and today if you go to the Royal Horse guard's exhibition close to the London Eye you can see (consequently) the "Sword of Peace" as awarded by the Queen and put on display as one of the main features of the exhibit.
