  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Helium v Dragon v Alexa

There seems to be a huge interest in this kind of test so I'm reaching out to a few people who may be interested and I am going to put one together.

Will a few different lens types, and may even through a few other cameras into the mix.

I'll let you know if this goes through.

It's always the same thing here. Frame looks great, but not what the OP asked for. He asked for a comparison. Not a single frame which has gone through a bunch of correction in post. I too am interested in seeing the differences if anyone can make a real test.

Got real tests with Helium next to both alexa and weapon dragon. If I would share them here? No way.

As such posting always leads to a shit storm of snarky comments, misunderstandings and then a long debate about things that are not really sensor or camera related, like dynamic rounding of the highlights, nuances of color etc. So I pass.

Sorry for posting one frame here, that will not happen again. Deleted the post and the image. Hope not to much harm is done.

Hey Björn, sorry for adding to the bs with my alterations of your picture, I just liked what I saw and wanted to share the goods.

You'd be totally justified if you didn't want to share any more frame-grabs, but you should know your insights into the Helium, among other things, are appreciated.

I could go on at length, point by point, explaining where the real problem is here in/with this thread, but I don't want to cause any trouble.

Thanks again for your contributions, have fun with the Helium.

Hi! i agree with Les. Your frame is amazing, and too bad for us if you don't want to post frames anymore. But your opinion about helium compared to other cameras still interest some of us :)

Hey Björn. I'm really grateful that you shared your Helium tests so far. Very much appreciated. Not all comments are negative!

Absolutely. Bjorn, thanks for sharing. On your personal opinion, what are the plus and minuses- from what you see- from each sensor? Are we seeing a significant improvement from Dragon , or are we in a situation of some compromise? Will the Helium "sway", or silence, the regular complaints from those that prefer Alexa? ( look subjectiveness aside)?

I don't think anyone is trying to say that posting stills or giving impressions on the camera isn't appreciated--only that posting a single edited, high ISO still on a thread asking for side by side comparisons and saying "Ive never seen an alexa do 1/4 of this" isn't necessarily fulfilling the original request. Its a cool piece of information and definitely says something about what helium can do, but I think many people are interested in seeing how the cameras compare to each other in a variety of environments, taking into account several criteria--ISO being one of them. And to be clear, its not about crowning one of them to be absolutely better than the others, but just to understand how they differ and where one might be appropriate for a given project.
