Anyone know of a heavy duty camera slider that can mount on top of tripod legs? I have the Dana Dolly, Matthews Doorway. I want something that can take 25lbs, and mount from the ground up to tripod if needed, and slide just a couple of feet. Any thoughts? Entering 'camera slider' or ' heavy duty camera slider' into google gets me nowhere with how many sliders there are out there.

Trost M series sliders (trostmotion.com) - very solidly engineered and built, super smooth action, supports a lot of weight and many mounting options.

Depending on your end use, here are the two I would recommend:

http://www.mytworks.com

and

http://www.trostmotion.com

The Trost has 3 variants. There are a number of threads on REDUser in which you will find numerous testimonials to the build quality and adaptability for various applications.

The MYT is more "traditional" and has far more means to accessorize. Plus, available in numerous lengths. Easy to set up, solid and smooth.

I have both and would be hard pressed to endorse one over the other - both are professional tools.

My best advice is to go with something that is truly heavy-duty. Really study the literature and make sure that the claims are real. There are many "sliders" that make claims up to a certain weight but if you want something to really hold the camera steady it needs to be a high quality system like The Original Slider or 8 ball slider.

Everything less than that is "heavy-duty" to a point.

I'll try dig out a BTS of a 65kg camera setup on my ronfordbaker slider... I doubt the 8ball system could compete.. (not sure about the 'original' as I have no experience of it)

Michael,

Im looking at the ronford baker site. That thing is a beast, it should have been on my list. 165kg underslung!!!! For the win.

I like the Trost slider the stye is not set up for big lenses it does the job but there service is very horrifically bad ,
I had a broken slider a year ago Last January and Trost promise to help me on 3 different emails but no luck.
If you buy a Trost slider and you have a problem your out of luck.
Don't Trust the Trost Slider Service, there is none
This is dad but with pop up company's they only want tp make a quick buck.

Hi Cliff,

I wish we could have made you a satisfied customer. As we've discussed several times now via email, we are happy to provide new rails to customers who have destroyed theirs by dropping, smashing, etc. their slider. However, it can take a while for us to get the part, because we make them in batches. There are many other ways we could help you besides replacing the rail component. But because your preference was to wait for a new rail to become available, that's the route we took. We're always happy to problem-solve this another way. Feel free to get in touch and we can work it out.

Speed rail sliders can be very handy, BUT they come with some drawbacks as well. The rail needs to be very smooth (hard to find on most grip trucks) and if the length is over 3-4' a heavy camera/head often introduces flex into the system. But, they can be under slung easily and cover very long slides.

I like that the four legs are speed rail in that design. The carriage is rectangular tube which is far more ridged than round pipe.

An other well deserved vote for the Trost Motion M series Slider + DitoGear Motor Controller, an absolute insanely heavy duty precise and smooth Slider!

I own 3 original sliders . Only thing I have upgraded in 10 years is one bearing that cost about 75$. It's expensive but after trying the Ronford, the Walter Klassen, the Silent Cat, the matthews ; there is nothing close to the build quality, stiffness, portability (mini versions) and fast setup. Buy once and forget about it. And service is 5 stars from Jerry and Ron.
