Hey Team,

quick one for you. I have tried several different HDMI Displays on Scarlet but so far I have been unable to get any signal from the camera. (followed the menu options and procedure etc) Can anyone confirm if this has been enabled in firmware at this time, or better yet got this to work?

Cheers all!

Pretty sure you have to enable it in the menu. So you can connect the Touch screen, or use an SDI monitor to enable it that way.

Set the HD-SDI output to OFF and then set the HDMI output to PREVIEW or other mode,

... then power cycle the camera and you should now see an HDMI signal.

Is there any chance to enable the HDMI previewing monitor without the touchlcd nor redmote but only sidehandle + SDI monitor ?? In other words can I see what's going on in the menu (in the first time boot of the camera) with the only SDI monitor connected but not lcd or bombevff?

The signal is strictly progressive, not PsF. Not all devices accept this, even if it's part of the specs.

I'm a bit confused about the signal being strictly progressive. If I'm recording 23.976 in Scarlet, it's got to pack that in some fashion as the end result has to be 60 frames, right?

I'm fuzzy on this, as it's been quite a while since I thought about it, but ... the Canon HV20 will output a 60i that can be displayed on any TV by packing the 23.976p frames into 60i in some fashion, and adding extra frames. I can easily unpack this in Final Cut Pro7 when captured from a Black Magic Intensity card.

I'm certainly hoping to be able to monitor Scarlet in the same fashion. I've got an hdmi splitter from Monoprice that sends one signal to a large screen hdmi for monitoring and sends the other to a 30' hdmi cable to be captured by the intensity card.

Am I going to have a problem with the Scarlet displaying on my monitor or capturing on the Intensity?

BTW - being able to work this way makes it very easy to play back the video on large screens to verify that all is well and do sound checks with clipping indicators in software and audio playback on studio monitors.

I'm moving this from FCP7 to Adobe 5.5 on Win7 (as Apple certainly killed FCP's future).

The HD coming out of that HDMI and SDI is a future standard not adapted by most monitors assesories out there of today. It's also very hard to convert the signal into something else. On this forum people wrote that the Black magic up/down/cross converter could reformat the signal into 60I or 50I but no, I bought it and let me tell you it does not work, it can only convert it down to 1280p and then that is an old standard that works on most monitors but then you lost the 1920.

So RED, please, please make the output 25p embedded in 50i possible.IT would mean so much for us.

So coming back to the original question - yes HDMI is available.

Ok thanx a lot. But is the HDMI enabled 4 the first time boot? I mean, can I connect my HDMI monitor when I'll get the scarlet 4 the first time and see the menu on it via sidehandle or is there a "blind" procedure (not having the redlcd nor the bombevf) to enable it??

If it does not detect the presence of an LCD or EVF, then it should auto-enable the HDMI output.

I can check that tomorrow morning for you...

That's the issue, Stuart, it seems that it's not doing this, according to multiple reports. It will default the viewfinder displays to hdmi but not enable the actual HDMI output. Which is causing issues if you don't have an SDI monitor or red LCD.

O.K see the issue...

Is there any update to this problem? My Scarlet is soon to arrive and like Carmine, I will need to be able to use an HDMI monitor when I first switch on the camera. I.e. I am currently in Scotland WITHOUT any access to a Red LCD (old or new) or a Red EVF. Neither will I have a redmote, or sdi monitor, for now just a side handle and a couple of HDMI monitors. Many thanks for your help guys!
