I'm in the same boat right now. I don't have anything other than the brain and a HDMI monitor. I was hoping that I would at least be able to see something on the monitor when I started the camera up. It didn't matter to me to have any menus I just wanted a picture but it was not to be. Looks like I will have to wait on my side handle or redmote in order to activate the HDMI out.
I'm torn on whether or not to bite the bullet and get a Red Touch before March 1st.
No rental house near U to let U to use a sidehandle or redtouch or redmote to set everything right?
It's just a few seconds, time for a coffee, maybe less..
I don't own a scarlet yet, so maybe I say something stupid here..
Is it possible to put settings from another scarlet on your scarlet. Like you would update a firmware.
Then someone could upload settings with HDMI enabled. Just an idea.....
Just looked into the Firmware upgrade PDF ...theoretically you don't need a monitor to upgrade firmware. RED should just release a Firmware with defaults the HDMI output, then it should display HDMI.
Theoretically....
Björn - were you using the Black Magic 'Mini Converter SDI to HDMI'?The HD coming out of that HDMI and SDI is a future standard not adapted by most monitors assesories out there of today. It's also very hard to convert the signal into something else. On this forum people wrote that the Black magic up/down/cross converter could reformat the signal into 60I or 50I but no, I bought it and let me tell you it does not work, it can only convert it down to 1280p and then that is an old standard that works on most monitors but then you lost the 1920.
So RED, please, please make the output 25p embedded in 50i possible.IT would mean so much for us.
Please correct me if I'm wrong but I want to sum up where I think we're at now. HDMI is not enabled and at such time that it will be, it will be based on a future (meaning currently non-existent) standard? I was going to get a SmallHD DP4 to use as a finder and it uses HDMI. This gets back to the discussion in another thread about whether this $15,000 camera is finished yet. Others have said that it will take some time before the camera is "bomb-proof." I've been unclear on what this means but I'm reluctantly beginning to think it's Redspeak for "fully working."
I'm not trying to be overly critical. I just expect a fully functional motion picture camera. I can wait for, and look forward to, new functionality future firmware updates will bring; no problem with that. In my experience, a functioning, industry-standard HDMI out is expected from a camera, not something envisioned (to be accompanied by a dramatic sweep of the hand and gaze into the distance) for the future.
You're a little off. HDMI isn't enabled to start with, but if you only have an HDMI monitor, RED support can get you a flash of the firmware that enables it to start.
The 1080p60 is not a 'future standard', but part of the HDMI specification.
However, not all devices implement all of the specification.
There's some disagreement as to how many HDMI monitors will display 1080p60. The gentleman I responded to had trouble with his.
For consumer monitors, or older monitors, unless there are 1080p60 signals coming out of BluRay players, why exactly would they as I can't list any 1080p60 output devices off the top of my head?
This doesn't mean the camera is not 'finished'. Even though the firmware is in beta, it's pretty feature complete, and frankly - pretty amazing!!!
But, at least in my humble opinion, as RED sees the need to support 1080p24/25/etc. in SDI, I'm hoping that RED will support these for HDMI - as it directly affects the professional HDMI capture devices (Black Magic Intensity, Matrox MX02) that I own, as well as many others.
