  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Has anyone worked with REDundead ?

Looks like REDundead is dead... At least on 10.9.x

Same app / drive / command works as expected on 10.7.x but produce the "Done !" message and does not proceed any further on latest OS X.

Will see if I can investsigate further or test on 10.8 but looks like it might need an update for recent machines...

Yes it is... I sure won't be long the only one to be stop by the new Mac software. I hope it won't be the same as for Adobe Premiere users on Mac...

The undead recovery worked fine on a old Mac but, with the last R3D file, i missed the "_001.RD3" part of the file (the last rush begins with the _002.R3D,etc.) Every others takes were fine and completed, but the last one, the one in wich i had a power failure, i missed the first 4 Gigas of the file. It is the second time i got this issue with REDundead and a power failure, so i think, in case of power failure, you loose systematically the beginning of the file and save the end. That is a little bit curious. Any idea to get this part of the file back ?

working on macosx 10.7.5 & redundead 1.2 - we have a folder with 2 .r3ds - the files were transfered from red media quite awhile back - the problem with the r3ds is that they appear to be corrupted - they both show up with a few frames and then just freeze. question - should redundead be able to repair clips like this? i've run several attempts and i get the "done" but no files show up in the output folder. any ideas of what to check for?
thanks

Hey,

I'm trying to recover some RED files which were deleted from a Samsung D3 Station Media 3TB. There were no other files copied to the drive afterwards and the drive hasn't been formatted. I'm using REDundead but I after typing the commands I immediately get a message DONE!
I've typed:
Last login: Thu Jul 16 14:47:33 on ttys000
iMac-Mateusz:~ Mateusz$ diskutil list

iMac-Mateusz:~ Mateusz$ sudo redundead dev/rdisk3 /Volumes/LASZLO/RECOVER
Password:
Output Dir: /Volumes/LASZLO/RECOVER

Done!

I've tried several times with adding "sudo", removing "sudo", typing sudo redundead dev/rdisk3s1 instead of dev/rdisk3.
Every time I get the same message.

Is there something I'm doing wrong?

Thanks,

Mateusz.

Mateusz,

You need a 'slash' (/) in front of dev/rdisk3: sudo redundead /dev/rdisk3 /Volumes/LASZLO/RECOVER

Having said that, redundead really only works best if you run it on the original REDmag. You can try it on your NTFS drive, but it may not work (if you just deleted the file you might be better of trying an NTFS undelete tool!!!)

Please let me know if anyone is having it fail on 1) a redmag, 2) with sudo in-front of redundead and 3) using the proper /dev/rdiskX format

Rob

Hey Rob,

Thank you very much. Unfortunately adding the "/" didn't help out. I'll try with the NTFS undelete tool. I'll let you know as soon I come up with anything.

Best,

Mateusz.

Thank you Conrad, seriously you are the only person that mentioned that space between /rdisk# and dragging the source folder, i tried this a billion times with no success until you mentioned the space. WHy doesnt the red undead operations instruction mention this? I guess you need to be familiar with programing to know this?
