  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Has anyone worked with REDundead ?

I have a situation. I downloaded my card to my hard drive few days ago. A few days after I went into my drive that had the downloaded folders. Everything was their except the R3D files in each of the clip folders. The only thing I can think of is that some how the transfer stopped before the R3D files begun to transfer.

My help is that I need to try and recover the R3D's off of the SSD card.

I tried using REDundead last night. Here is what I got,

Am I doing something wrong ? I think so. Any help on starting the recovery through Terminal and REDundead would be helpful.

Thank you

i saved the footage from 6 months ago on SSD with REDundead

Example: REDundead /dev/rdisk9 /Volumes/newdisk

you choose this
redundead /dev/rdisk3 /Users/russophotography/vans/REDundead/
its not existing folder i guess also no / at the end

In the terminal type:

REDundead /dev/rdisk9

Include the space at the end. Then in finder, navigate to the folder you wish to copy to and click and drag the folder to the terminal window. It will fill in the path to that folder. Make sure it ends with a slash /. Youll end up with something like:

REDundead /dev/rdisk9 /Volumes/VolumeName/path/to/folder/

what happens if i get a permissions denied ? I did what R3D Data said and I got a permission denied

daniel-russos-imac:~ russophotography$ diskutil list

Since this has not been addressed yet in this thread, let me chime in. The fact that you had incomplete transfers suggest you did not use a verifiable transfer solution. So you don't go through is again, may I suggest you use R3D Data Manager to back up your RED files to multiple drives. One transfer is not enough, and next time, please check you transfer, it can save you worry and regret.

Surely there is a way to recover past the last recorded data ?

If the data was still on there, Red Undead would likely have recovered it. When you re-record over the card the old data is overwritten by the new as it fills up. If you A008 was a full cards worth of data, there would be no A007 Data left unwritten over to recover.

Not verifying the transfer was successful during production with a program that does a checksum etc is an accidental equivalent of a mag of film getting flashed and rendered useless. It either happens because the camera loader wasn't competent/expereineced/careful enough, or because of bad on set or transit practices.

Much like accidentally flashing a mag, if you've accidentally overwritten the data by filling up the same card after not checking the footage was in fact somewhere else, then it is in fact gone.

In Redcine-x pro, I deleted the R3Ds from the Browser Project window, apparently this deletes the R3D files from the hard drive! Not knowing this I emptied the recycle bin.

Now I'm trying to get those R3d files back, the external drive works fine, it has not been reformatted, corrupted, or written to since the files were deleted.

I tried REDundead using this in the terminal redundead /dev/rdisk5 /Users/admin/Desktop/REDundead/

As soon as I press enter, I get "Done!" with no files recovered.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Exactly the same here. What does "Done !" mean if nothing has been done ??
