  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Has anyone recieved the microMatteBox for Red One?

I'm beginning to lose my religion here. Brian, where's my mattebox? I'm a reservation holder, ordered early, and still no mattebox, and no shipping notice? What up with that?

Ditto on that.

My Red looks naked without a mattebox. Please don't make me gaffer-tape a Chrosziel to it...

Ummm... Nevermind.

Where can I pick up the arri rear bellow and how much does it cost...looking for a 80mm stepdown.

Abel can sell you this. But please be very aware everyone, while Brian clearly states that these will fit to the RedRock Micro mattebox, we and Arri have not tested this, and we are both still unsure exactly which parts are needed to make it work. So again I say that anyone who wants to bring one of these puppies to me can make an appointment and then we'll figure out if & how to do this. Only then can we give an accurate quote of cost because only then will we fully understand what part you would require.

Jeff:

I appreciate your advice (as always) but a comparison between RR and Red is not appropriate here. Red gave people reservation numbers and ensured that the cameras were shipped in order. They only took deposits which they guaranteed. I had my order in for RR within hours of it becoming available. I was a reservation holder from day one. Several posters have acknowledged that they have received their MB indicating that they placed their order after me. Their communication with customers on the boards, while frequent, rarely has any concrete information. Trying to get in touch with them directly is a futile experience at best. Their shipping dates have changed almost daily. What may sound like pissing and moaning are legit concerns from customers who have paid full-price for a product that they have been promised over and over again, but have yet to receive. No offense, but outside the U.S., the company would have been shut down by now. I've learned a great deal from Reduser regarding suppliers that step-up to bat for their customers and have made purchases accordingly. This thread should stand as a cautionary tale.

I find it curious that people are upset with the wait for the mattebox. Red Rock didn't even take money for the mattebox until NAB '08, less than 4 full months ago. Yet everyone still seems content that they had to wait for 18 months to over 2 years for their RED? By the same logic, they should be mad at RED too. Or maybe they are and just don't voice that opinion?

The issue is (at least for me) that over the last two months the shipping dates have changed at least 10 times. In fact, the shipping date has changed for mine over *8* times in the last two weeks. I am now told that it will be shipped sometime between Tues-Fri next week. I feel like RED was far more forthcoming with info than RRM (sorry Brian and Andrew!). Plus, RED didn't take the full amount for a camera and then not ship it for 3 months. Heck, I only had to wait 15 days for my camera and I was right in the middle of the delay at the start of May. It's frustrating to hear "they will ship 60 days from NAB no problem" and over 90 days later I still don't have a mattebox. Maybe it's also easier to give RED a little more slack since their product is FAR more complex.

If any of you guys are reservation holders and ordered the mattebox without specifying your reservation holder status, you may not be in the current delivery queue.

Things would also be different if they had gone by the order number instead of order date within the 3 groups (gold ticket, reservation, and post-res) For me that would have meant that I would have gotten mine as I signed up the day they opened up reservation. However, I was not able to pay until April 29, so I got pushed back quite a bit. Frustrating to say the least. That's kinda why I like the way Viewfactor did it. No pre pre-reservation crap. They opened up, you paid and you had your place in line.

Yup, same here. Getting old really quickly now. I know its coming, but give me a worst case scenario instead of stringing us along with these shipping dates that are unrealistic. People, (Including myself) are just getting frustrated and annoyed.

Dumbass moderator is shutting up.

I don't think I found a way to effectively convey my thoughts on this matter.

Jeff:

I have always found RedUser an informative site (although a little fanboy heavy). I come here for insight into the developments of the Red and also to gain the benefit of other's research. Having aired my personal experience with RR is absolutely no indication of my career priorities as you imply in your off-the-cuff statement "Got too many other things to deal with than sit around and complain about a delay on a $800 mattebox." The title of the thread along with the fact that there have been almost 300 posts should alone indicate that at least some people believe that this issue has merit. As the moderator of the thread, I would assume you, more than anyone, would respect that.

Dismissing several RedUser member's concerns about a vender that is not being professional by implying that they have nothing better to do (but you do), will inevitably result in a pissing match over who's resume is better. My own sense of humility requires me to stop typing.

Best Regards,

Nick Shields.

Nick,

I was in no way targeting you personally, or anyone else on a personal level in any way. Nor was it my intent to dismiss anyone's opintions or show any disprespect. The last thing I want here is a pissing match, both from my own personal point of view and as that of a moderator. I've retracted my dumbass postings.

I'm sorry. Please accept my apologies to you and anyone else who thought I was being a horse's ass.

Hi folks

responses on a few points here:

First, regarding the arri bellows, I will post up a picture shortly on the adapter plate. It's not complicated at all. I am not an arri expert, but if you look at http://www.arri.com/prod/cam/mb-20/MB-20.pdf the K2.65028.0 is the "back 138mm bellows adapter" which can then be connected to a variety of bellows sizes. A picture will help tell a better story (coming in a bit). When you remove the microMatteBox lens connector on the back, the adapter plate just pops on with the two thumb screws.

Second, we have a prototype of our 105mm studio arm, so we've heard you on that one. Also, when we announce it, it will be when we have quantity in our warehouse and ready to ship, not sooner!

Third, regarding the delivery schedules, we think it's an issue too - part of the reason we are participating in this thread. It is occupying all of our time. Yes our delivery dates change - they are estimates. If we had firm dates we would post them. We don't like that we don't have them, so we don't expect you to like it either, but it's a new product release so we run into new, unexpected things almost daily that affect our schedule. We update our shipping page to reflect the best information we have at the time. Instead of reservation numbers, we have three groups of shipping: golden ticket holders (all of whom have shipped), the reservation holders (which we are working through now), and subsequent orders. The latest info we posted to our shipping page is that we expect to get through the reservation list this week. We said friday, but I am hoping for thursday.

Most importantly we are shipping now, we have been shipping for a while, and we are making progress on backorders, so there is a light at the end of the tunnel for everyone. As mentioned before, the Red Bundle shipments was delayed on the 19mm parts not being ready when we initially started shipping, so we are playing catch up on the Red front, which particularly affects this crowd.

And finally, while I am just part of Redrock, I have always said if anyone has difficulties connecting with us, you can always write me directly at brian@redrockmicro.com. I will be happy to provide you with the information I have, but keep in mind the most detailed info I have was just posted above.

I am also available in the LA area and would be happy to show our microMatteBox if you are interested. We are also attending the upcoming August 9th DCS gear demonstration as well, so that's another place to check it out.

Thanks again for the feedback

Brian

Brian-How do we know if we are "reservation holders" or "subsequent orders." I have no idea...I just know I ordered one and have had very little communication from you guys. I did receive an email in return to a question that was obviously copied and pasted, as I asked about an expedited order...the next day I got the exact copy and pasted email back.

Please let me know how we can tell if we are "reservation" or not.

Thanks!

Kevin

In fairness Brian, I wouldn't mind knowing that myself. I ordered right after NAB. Money taken April 23rd. Knowing when we could expect shipment would really help us in planing.

Thanks

Understood. So it is the Arri MB20 System One that it marries to, not the more common System Two. People will need the bellows adapter as well as the bellows itself. That and a few step down rings and you essentially double the cost of the mattebox!

Now that we know what is needed, Abel can help people wishing to buy the Arri mattebox parts. I must again caution that we have yet to try this out yet ourselves, so you'll just have to trust what Brian says (not that I'd be conconcerned) until someone takes me up on my offer and brings in his/her mattebox.

I don't think anyone here has problem with delays, we have all experienced our fair deal of it ;-). I think what it's all about (at least when speaking for my self), is the full payment in advance - in combination with a (about) two month delay.

That's all - we are all sure you are doing a great job with our gear.

PS. My MicroMatteBox is now in town in the FedEx truck. Ordered 17th of April. Thank you. DS.
