  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Has anyone recieved the microMatteBox for Red One?

which lenses fit the redrock mattebox? - RED 18-85? RED 50-150? Arri ultra´s at what focal length?

still dont know if i go with Redrock or buy the Arri...

Im not a cinematographer - so if its stated in the specs I cant read it...

When did you put in for your reservation?

April 29th. But I also got the RED bundle, which at first delayed shipment, but now I think everything is running smoothly--just slowly:( I would love to know how many matteboxes a day they are shipping. It's also killing me seeing all these people getting their matteboxes that don't look like they make their living with their gear..not trying to be mean or anything.

The bracket attaches to a pair of rods on the side of the mattebox, which allows a few inches of front/back travel. It looks to be set nearly all the way back. Given the design's origins, I would think that the rod bracket would line up just under the back of the mattebox.

I would hope it lines up with the back of the matte box, but from the picture it looks to be a few inches behind the back of it. Can anyone else confirm that the matte box can line up so the back is over the support bracket?

You shouldn't take it so personally, its not a conspiracy to keep you from getting your mattebox. Those of us who don't make a living at this have the same purchase power as you do because in the end a dollar is still a dollar.

After repeatedly asking about our order, I just received an email indicating we should receive it in the next two weeks and that "we are currently shipping the MicroMatteBoxes according to the date that they were ordered.". This is absolutely not true as evidenced by those who have already received their shipment having ordered on the same day (the first day available) or later than myself - a reservation holder. I can handle the delay, but being blatantly mislead is insulting. Consider my circumstances a cautionary tale. By the way, I've met Brian and his team at the past few NAB's and they are very nice people. Their business practices on the other hand leave much to be desired. Oh, and to add insult to injury, they told me to go to their shipping page for "a great source for lead times and shipping...". You know, the page that has yet to be accurate since the day they posted it, revised it, revised it and revised it.

I put my name on a reservation list at nab 2007..
it was the first day and maybe an hour after NAB opened there doors. I just got it 2 days ago.
I paid april 16th 2008 (while in my room during NAB)

Hi everyone

I missed these requests, sorry. For some reason RedUser doesn't send me notifications, so I'll have to check my CP.

Bellows - ha ha, yes I know what bellows are, but thanks for asking. You replace the microMatteBox lens connector with the 138mm bellows adapter (which has thumb screws) and then you can use whatever bellows size to screw into it

Suede (and general shipping update) - we are shipping first in first out. There are product-related exceptions - we posted several weeks back the 19mm versions were delayed and started shipping later, so we continued to ship in order, and when the 19mm arm was ready we pulled the reserve matteboxes and shipped those. At one point we had to wait for a few days for the cases to ship

After some brow beating and sleuthing to fix some things that made shipping slow, we should be clearing the reserve list next week (see the latest shipping update). We are shipping and continue to ship, and those who ordered early have gotten or are getting theirs. The Red bundles got off to a slow start, but we include these in the projected completion of reservations as well. The dates are being updated because we said we would keep everyone informed, and we will continue update that page to reflect our best estimates of when things will ship.

Thanks again

Brian

Can anyone who has the Mattebox and used it comment on how they like it? Is it quality or is it cheap like everything else RedRock makes? And is it still only 4x4?

Thanks,

Jase.

I wouldn't call RedRock quality cheap. Maybe compared to Arriflex engineering and build, you might say it is cheap.

But compared to other $1000-$2000 matteboxes and followfocuses, I think Redrock builds great quality gear at very, very reasonable prices.

You are getting much more from them than what you pay, if that makes any sense.

Just received it today. The build quality appears to be very nice and solid. Everything works smoothly, no sloppy parts or not quite fitting properly areas. Just solid and very functional. It would be nice if the swing-away locked in the open position. And I do wish that RR had a 15mm studio arm. I'm using a Zacuto jeep for the conversion. It works well. The mattebox is adjustable up and down so it's easy to get it set correctly. And thanks for the tip (whoever that was) about the packing foam fitting perfectly into a 1550 pelican case. I had a case ready to go! It's a perfect fit. This is an incredible piece of kit for an amazing price!

I guess that was a low blow on my part. i was just very confused as to how the bellows would fit into the matte box. Is this 138mm bellows adapter part of the package? If not, how can I get one? I would like one with my matte box when it ships.

Where can I pick up the arri rear bellow and how much does it cost...looking for a 80mm stepdown.

I'm beginning to lose my religion here. Brian, where's my mattebox? I'm a reservation holder, ordered early, and still no mattebox, and no shipping notice? What up with that?
