  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Groupbuy for the Action Products Actioncam "RED" Edition

Dear Ketch,

Without trying this rig by now , we could ask actionproducts for a somewhat equal sollution which also allows us in the future to turn the arm on the sides with the cam. stabilizing itself.

Anyway I appreciate your own opinion very much, and I'll will give this a serious thought in the next couple of days. Trying both rigs woud be much easier to solve such a on distance decision.

But the framing on the demovideo is what keeps me have some doubts. Without seeing any other footage of this rig it's hard to make it out.

If someone would have some extra footage , mabe this could clear things out for me.

I myself look at the MK-v AR system, and it is not compatible with the RED edition ActionCam system, this I was told directly from the guys of the MK-V AR.

I don't posses the full knowledge as other might have, but I can tell you this,

the operation system capacity of both systems are very close at the only and most evident difference been the price the ActionCam system with the Extreme 360 Zero-G could hit the $30,000.00 wile the MK-V AR could likely hit the $50,000.00 to $70,000.00.

I have learned from RED evolution and revolution, that some time it is not how much a product cost and how fancy and complicated a product looks, but it is how it functions, in this I believe from what I have seen at LART and in Brian's specs and small (too small ( video that his product will be of very similar quality and workflow capacity but at likely less then half the price tag.

I also think that what is important is the size/weight of this ActionCam system ( it is surely for me and my F%##%# UP knee ) when compared to other systems.

Below are few shots from LART, I don't have the ones with the Actioncam actually in "ACTION" as those photos were part of the 500 plus photos lost on the reformatted cards used on Manny's camera, but I did see that wile using the ActionCam users were not leaning back as much.

Actually the first 2 pictures you posted were of actioncams. The last picture of the operator is side is a GPI Pro rig and arm. The monitor alone on that system is a few thousand dollars more than the red addition actioncam.

The question I posted before was if anyone in the group buy had actually recieved their rig or know when they are going to be shipping.

I'm also suprised (and maybe alittle alarmed) that someone said the 360 wasn't going to ship unti March. I ordered a fullsized zero-g along with the 360 xtreme. Brian has not mentioned anything about a delay on the xtreme 360 motor. Although I have been waiting about 7 weeks for my unit to ship. Apparently another vender had been delayed on there end of completing a digital level and frameline gen.

So i'm trying to stay patient, but I am seeing a few full packages for sale of PRO/BB/Mk-v with follow focus and a number of other pieces I still need to get and would actually save me money in the end. I would just have to give up the telescoping post and 360, but come out with a rig from one of the "big" three. trying to be patient.

Yes JBeattie I know,

I posted those photos are they were the only ones with steadicam gear that survived the reformatting of few cards.

As far as dates of delivery of the ActionCam, this Brian or Tonaci could tell as about it.

Again I think that at the price point and with the quality of this rig is a great deal no doubt, now if some of as find out that it will come to be delivered to late for our projects it is a totally different story, I know I wish I had my REDs long ago but I didn't so I wait patiently.

Hope you get your answer soon in off.

The Alien Revolution itself (Roll cage+electronics) with the MK-V Sled is around 80K, add a Walter Klassen Vest (standard vest won't work) and either a GPI Pro Arm (de-facto standard on the Alien) or a Tiffen G70 and you'll end at somewhere in the area of 110K (excl. lcs etc.)

Can anybody who did attend the Lart event please tell me, if they know the Mk-V Ar revolution , how future proof this unit is. Does the 360 mode could acchieve similar results, because on the first sight the Mk seems much more complicated regarding the built , but in real world operation, could it be as stable and smooth.... This keeps me busy as prices are in a total different range, but I'm so impressed from the Mk-v demos on their sites, and the action doesn't have that kind of demo's listed on their site, I regret they haven't post any other video by now to convince us of their build quality and features.
¨Please if you have any experience, come back to me on this?......

Sven

With the Mk-V AR and the 360Xtreme you will have situations were you will get simular results with both systems. The AR is fully automatic, simplifying a great part of the low-to-hi mode operation for the operator. The 360Xtreme will require more effort from the operator, however gives you the posibility to get certan shots you can not get with the AR (mostly in very tight spaces - see our video, it starts in a small elevator and later in the narrow hallway). Depending on your budget and needs, either system fit's best. For me as an operator, I also need to ask myself how often I will need these typ of shots and be able to sell it to the director - and that answer will tell me how fast I can pay off my investment. Just for you information, the 360Xtreme will get a new add-on soon, turning it into a crane remote-head.

The 360Xtreme will always remain turning on the "operating" side - I think this is were it has an advantage over other solutions. Yes, framing is difficult. The demo video was the result of my very first hour with the rig - I think the shot moving down the hallway, were the "actor" opens the door is "ok", and I would have locked it after some more practice:usd:

The 360Xtreme is shipping, and I'm really sorry, that the delay is because of the level - thanks for being so patient. On Wednesday Yuk Hoy Cheong flew in all the way from Malaysia to get a schooling and pic up his rig and 360Xtreme in person - so yes, we are defiantly shipping units, only the group-buy RED-edition is not shipping yet, because they are many units ordered and we decided to do some improvements specifically for the RED-edition ActionCam

One important asset of the AR system is that it also provides rock solid roll stabilization. Pretty handy.
But as always it might be hard to get producers to pay the dough to make it feasible at all.
