Groupbuy for the Action Products Actioncam "RED" Edition:
Action Products and Actioncam is in no way affiliated or endorsed by the RED Digital Cinema Camera Company. The configuration that is offered for the group buy is considered the "RED" edition because it is specifically designed to utilize the RED LCD and RED Basic Production Pack for counterbalancing. My first article and photos on the Actioncam "RED" edition can be found HERE.

Groupbuy DISCOUNT DETAILS:

If we get more than five buyers - buyers in the groupbuy will each save (3%) off of regular price.
If we get more than ten buyers - buyers in the groupbuy will each save (5%) off of regular price.

Shipping Costs: Here is where additional savings will factor in as well. Shipping is via International Express (3-4 days) and cost to ship one unit is approximately $520.00. For the groupbuy, we will have all of the Actioncams shipped to one location and the shipping will be divided up among the groupbuyers. Those who are in Southern California can pick their Actioncam up from me in person. Those who are not local or who are unable to come in person will have their Actioncam shipped to their address via FEDEX (Groupbuyer to pay additional shipping fee).

Import Tax: TBA (We are still waiting to hear back from UPS regarding the import duties fee. This is usually less than regular tax charged here in the United States. We hope to get confirmation by monday)

Actioncam Red Edition includes:

- RED edition sled; (w/o Monitor)
- Zero-g Arm (11-41 lb Load spring packs)
- Back mounted vest (for loads up to 50lbs)

Hi Tonaci,
I am very interested, please keep me in the loop.
Aloha

I am VERY interested. I would want both cases, as well.

Let me know when it is time (and how) to proceed.

Wow, they are already announce a raising of the cost by 20% before they've even shipped any? I'm waiting until Red first releases a decent Wireless FF, good for people who already have one and can jump on this. Boo to the company for hiking prices so fast.

I guess some of us are banking on Birger's Canon system. At least that's my situation.

But you're right. . . it's quite a leap of faith on my part. But doesn't fortune favor the foolish?

:-)

Yeah, I knew it would hurt. But believe me, the low dollar is killing us and raise in prices are on all our products since the RED-edition is based on our Zero-G system. So just consider it an "introduction price" - lot's of manufacturers do this for a new product and for a limited time only.

Great Tonaci,

I was wondering when you were posting about this great stabilizzation system, and you guys have to see what I intend to put on this baby.

360 Xtreme G-ZERO GRAVITY

Hopefully Brian fills in.

Ciao,

KETCH ROSSI

Thanks Ketch!

The 360Xtreme is an add on that gives you the ability to go from hi- to low-mode continuously. The first 360's are just about to be shipped out. If you want to use it on the RED-edition ActionCam, you will either need a lot more counter weight (+ RED batteries with mounts), or simply up-grade to our flag-ship model the ActionCam "zero-g".

link to 360Xtreme video (this shot was the result of my first hour with the rig - the framing is not to great:)

Just for kicks, how much is the 360 attachment on to the base version of the Actioncam RED-Edition???

Thanks much.

Hello Tonaci and Brian,

I'm very interested too, but I would like to get the complete zero-g rig. I want the flexibility to fly other cameras as well. Keep me posted.

I'm interested - but it would be great to get more info/review posts. Compared to existing systems... etc. Everything looks positive so far but there really isn't a lot of user input... LART review??

This thread may more info that might interest you: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=6911

Here is review by a LART team member, Charles Pappart, who is a very established steadicam operator. Check out his imdb: http://imdb.com/name/nm0660435/

Here is his take (direct link below)

"Thanks Ken. I figured as much but didn't want to step on toesies. Thanks again for a fun day.

So here it is:

Brian's rig was a pleasant surprise for me. I had last seen his gear a few years ago and it was unconventional to say the least (his original arm was a definite diversion from the norm) so I had no immediate expectations of his rig. At first glance I saw solid, thoughtful machining going on and while there are a few issues that I noted even before mounting up, Brian was right there in agreement and indicated that they were going to be taken care of, which is always a good sign.

When it comes down to it, the two most important components of any stabilizer are the gimbal and the arm. The gimbal did show a bit of stiction which we discussed, although for the price point Brian is working at this may be to be expected. The arm is impressive, with performance that is much closer to isoelastic than this design of arm would suggest (it takes less force to push all the way down or hold all the way up than much of the competition, barring the big brand names). It also tracks well and feels solid.

The ability to lift components off the RED and place them on the sled (monitor, battery rack etc) is clever, although eventually one would probably want to supplement some of this in case you end up flying a different camera. Certainly a daylight-viewable monitor with greater viewing angle than the RED screen will be required, it's impossible to boom through the range of the arm without the screen "reversing out" and it gets dusted outdoors for the most part. However, for folks looking to get their REDs up and flying with minimal duplication of parts, this is a smart idea. There are lots of ways to configure the masses, so you can make your rig nice-and-fast for action scenes or

The vest is OK--we talked about beefing up the support in the critical lumbar area, that will probably help a lot.

For those unwilling or unable to plunk down the big bucks for a full-on setup (after trying on the Actioncam and heading back to my own rig across the room, I pondered just how many of the former I could buy for the same price as my own investment; certainly enough to get all of the cameras at LART flying, and then some!), this is definitely a good choice. And the red anodizing is pretty cool too!"

The one thing I wondered about was the "gimbal did show a bit of stiction which we discussed" I asked Brian what Charles meant by this..and here was Brian's response:

"If you turn the gimbal fork with out it being connected to the arm (just by hand) you will notice that it does not spin fully frictionless. Once connected to the arm and with a camera this is absolutly eliminated. Because we use "of the shelf" ball bearings (but expensive ones), some ball bearings run better than others. Again, once weight is applyed, this is no issue."

Also to add, Brian stated earlier that he is refining the actioncam based on his own LART experience and feedback from Charles. Again, the proof will be in the footage. I'll try my best to get some cranked out using the Actioncam this weekend for all to check out.

BY the way, according to confirmed reservations so far, we hit the TEN mark..so anyone who jumps in from here on out will benefit from a 495.00 discount.

If anyone has any further questions, please do ask.

Thanks for your work -

So from the above it seems like some mods are being made on the vest - what else is being addressed?- Also - is there footage posted yet???

Thanks

HEre is another one by the RED Savant: Steve Gibby, he posted this back in October. I owe it to Steve for connecting me with the Actioncam.

"We've had the ActionCam RED for over a month now. The build of the rig is exceptional...something you would expect from Swiss manufacturing. Our impressions of it so far? The ActionCam RED seriously rocks. It's price is well below comparable stabilization units.

Bottom line: If you need to fly a RED One, ActionCam RED is an excellent addition to your RED One camera kit. Initial impression = It's well made, operates smoothly, and is priced very competitively. "

You will see some cool Actioncam footage posed through Gibcor's channel on Vuse.

Also there is plenty of footage shot with actioncam at the official website: http://actionproducts.ch/en/downloads/downloads.html

Brian will chime in on the "refinement" specifics..I do not know what the refinements will be. Also I am not certian that there will be improvements to the vest. It works fine for me and I have no problem with it. It takes some training to get used to though thats for sure.

Brian sent me a quote and I asked about the discount. He has not reply to me as he may be waiting for the magic 10 numbers.

There are no changes on the vest. Adjusting the vest to find the perfect fit takes some time, normally after a few shooting hours and small readjustments, you find your personal adjustment. Keep in mind that the other back-mounted vest brands mostly require "custom" fitting before you purchase - Our vest is user adjustable. The other issue was with the one of the bearings in the gimbal - this was a pure adjustment issue and has bean resolved.
