GROUP BUY - Tilta Nucleus-M Wireless Follow Focus

New walk thru video. You guys are gonna love this product!

Chris,
Thanks a lot for the demo video. Feature wise looks great.
However, that motor looks so bulky (and heavy?). Other motors (Arri, Rtmotion, Cmotion) are much smaller. I am just thinking about balancing on gimbal.
What is the weight of the motor? And that motor cale looks a little stiff too. Nice if Tilta makes flex cable.

Looking forward for more reviews.

Thanks,
Thai

Remember that the motor is also the wireless receiver. So it does help take some gak off your camera-even if it does put the weight forward.

I know. But Rtmotion Latitude as receiver weights merely 100gr, that is negligible. Sometimes, I even use receiver as counterweight for heavier lenses.
Also, I fly Arri Mini using Arri wireless lens control. No receiver required.

So Tilta motor is still bulky adding more weight and mass to the side front, making it more difficult to balance gimbal. Just my feeling.

I agreed, however, I usually mount on the top or bottom of the lens (never on the side for gimbals setup).

If Titla can make add-on receiver to control EF lenses (Canon, Nikon) via their internal motors... I'm in

Yeah, but do you also fly multicopter with Red/Arri with FIZ and midsize lenses à la Schneider Xenon or Ultraprimes at flight speed up to 75km/h (approx. 47 Mph)? Then you know what I am talking about. Perfect balancing is key. No matter if you mount your motor on top, side or bottom.

That's awesome Chris! I can't wait to receive mine. Can the lens gears be flipped to the opposite side of the motors?

They can’t be flipped to the opposite side, however you can just put it the other way on the rods.

$1200 system will never be a replacement for a WCU-4 setup with Cmotion / Arri motors.

But it does change the game for a lot of conditions where you might not need or afford a ~$12,000 system.

Agreed.
Maybe I was just too wishful. But sure, 1200 is a steal. Maybe Tilta will release smaller motor in the near future. Who knows.

Well... thats why God created "cforce mini and CLM-5" (lol)

While I agree Arri WCU is probably technically better, what's happened here with Tilta is the apple mentality; sell for less but far more units and this can
only stop Arri type companies cornering the market with expensive our-way-or-the-highway systems.
It's also another example of dropping price increasing performance. There's no way it would have been economically or technologically feasible to have
done this 10-15 years ago; same with super cheap products like the movipro (which is damn cheap for what it does).
Electronics and manufacturing prices are really going down giving us far more for much less.

Quite curious to see what other insanely expensive system will be third partied at a fraction of the cost. I predict the Andra system
http://nofilmschool.com/2014/04/cinema-control-laboratories-andra-motion-follow-focus-system
will be imitated by someone like Tilta and come out at 2K instead of 12K, only a matter of time....

The two handles

The two handles

Hey Chris!

Thanks for posting that video!

I am thinking of getting one of these to use mainly on my Fujinon Zoom lens for reality as a one man band.

My question is how do you think it would go with the zoom control from these handles. Do you think it could be smooth or would it be kinda jagged. Do the wheels have decent resistance?

Thanks mate!
