GROUP BUY - Tilta Nucleus-M Wireless Follow Focus

I was at Tilta in Burbank the other day........ Seems as though there's some question as to whether the start/stop cable is 3-pin fisher or "sync" port lemo. Can we get some clarification? I'd like to have one of each, if possible.

Regarding the remote trigger cable, it sounded from the 1st post like we could only choose between RED or Arri, but I've got an Ursa Mini Pro and it uses a LANC cable for remote triggering. I'm guessing the RED and Arri cables won't work for me, but I'm not sure. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I asked Tilta about a LANC cable, this was their response: "We have cable for Sony and Blackmagic, but you need to let us know which model? like SONY FS7." I'm still waiting for a quote.
An alternative is to get a standard Arri cable from Tilta and use something like this to add LANC support: http://shop.plcelectronicsolutions.com/preston-c300-on-off-cable/

Read it more carefully. The last 2 sentences say they cannot record information from the ID on the credit card form or otherwise (meaning anywhere). The last sentence gives them the ability to record the ID NUMBER (not the entire ID card) only if you don't make the credit card available upon request. It doesn't say they can have a photocopy of the ID. They can just have the ID number.

"... provided that none of the information contained thereon is written or recorded on the credit card transaction form or otherwise. If the cardholder pays for the transaction with a credit card number and does not make the credit card available upon request to verify the number, the cardholder’s driver’s license number or identification card number may be recorded on the credit card transaction form or otherwise."

None of this addresses the basic problem.
This is not in any way shape or form a secure manner to provide credit card information online. Further, asking for a signature and a copy of photo ID is extremely imprudent and means that the entirety of this information is now sitting together on several servers all over the world. It is extremely discouraged by every type of online security entity today. It is the modern equivalent of sending cash in an envelope via the post office. The likelihood and consequences of interception grow exponentially.

I STRONGLY urge members to not make payment this way and for Tilta to process orders correctly. With a safe portal or by phone. This is yet another inconvenience and stumbling block after the wire transfer issue which does not show a willingness to treat a huge amount of orders in anything resembling a serious, respectful or professional manner.

Exactly. Well said.

If you're not happy, back out. They are trying to make things work as much as possible for all of us and they are doing what they can. I understand that it's not the norm, but they have assured us that they are protecting our info. Again, no one is forcing you into this GB.

Chris, bottom line is it's illegal for them to require a photocopy of a drivers license in California. They're in California and I'm in California. They need to figure out something else to be in compliance with the law. Simple as that.

I inquired again, and they said it's mandatory (regulated by the government) to request ID's when charging over $50. I'm just the messenger and what I'm being told.

That's totally f. There is no law requiring ID for credit card purchases over $50. If there was I wouldn't be able to buy hardly anything that I do from B&H, Adorama, Amazon, or any other online retailer. However, like I've said and demonstrated with the California code I quoted, it is illegal for them to request/require a photocopy of an ID. California isn't the only state with a law like that. There is a requirement from Visa and MasterCard requiring a signature for purchases of $50 or more. Without a signature on $50+ transactions the merchant pays a higher credit card transaction fee. For the signature requirement, Tilta is covered by the authorization form. What Tilta should be doing is verifying the shipping address is the billing address or an authorized shipping address with the credit card company if they're concerned about fraud.

Again, I'll reiterate this... IT IS ILLEGAL FOR TILTA TO REQUIRE A COPY OF A DRIVERS LICENSE OR ANY OTHER FORM OF ID IN CALIFORNIA. TILTA NEEDS TO FIGURE OUT SOMETHING ELSE. A lawyer would have a field day with this.

Chris, can Tilta setup a PayPal account (probably pass the PayPal fee to the buyer) for those that are not comfortable with sending photo ID?
So there will be 3 options, CC (with photo ID), wire transfer, and then PayPal. That should be a win-win.

I somehow had difficulty with the wire transfer and will need the credit card form sent my way. I've emailed, but as of yet, nada.

Ok, so the problem I'm being told with PayPal is China can't accept PayPal...and if their USA offices accept the PayPal, there's no way to get the funds to China. :-( So yea, I'm still trying to work on them to accept credit cards without ID, so we'll see. However, if you feel that strongly about not sending your ID, maybe this GB isn't meant for you. I'm doing everything I can to make everyone as happy as possible, but there will always be those who aren't happy, especially with this many people in a GB.

I'll let you know if their ID requirements change, but as of right now, it doesn't seem like they will.

Chris, I understand you're not making the decisions and this is not your fault. However, it's not a matter of this GB not being for us because we don't want to give a copy of our ID. It's a matter of the legality of what Tilta is requiring. Maybe the law is in China that requires ID for CC over $50. However, this is being done out of a USA office in California, where they are charging us California tax and shipping from Los Angeles, so they must abide by California law in the business they are conducting here. And the law states that they cannot require a photocopy of an ID. If they want to make phone calls to ask for an ID number that's fine, but the law was created to protect consumers against identity theft, and they must follow the law.
