  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy - Tilta Gravity Gimbal

This is an awesome group buy, thank you for organising! I was wondering how payments are going to be taken?

Chris, thanks for checking and Constantine, thanks for the insights into the matter of locking axes on gimbals. Very helpful!

No prob, you can disable the motor how ever and lock it physically this way it doesnt have to be powered so no prob. You biggest problem is that the roll doesnt do 180-360 degrees and thats what makes it a problem to your application.

the other is camera size , you will be limited , and you will be carrying extra height and extra axis weight etc with out a real meaning since roll is all you need. Tilt wont work well either on this application..

regards

Yeah, those are pretty much my concerns as well. No one size fits all, I guess. That's why I'm also considering the Letux Helix 1-Axis Pro. Unfortunately, I haven't found anyone yet with experience how well that unit performs in real world shooting scenarios.

Hi Chris, I'm out of the country at the moment, but this has grabbed my interest.

Questions. I'm assuming the Gravity kit includes the hard case and all that. Other questions.

- How many batteries are included with the kit?
- How difficult would it be to wire a RED LCD/EVF Lemo cable through the thing?

Thanks. I haven't had my hands on one to test it, but the payload capacity has me very interested.

Need to look up some footage shot with this thing next.

2 Batteries are included. If we reach 50 orders, another battery will be added at no charge.

In terms of running a RED LCD cable through..I don't have it front of my at the moment (in France on a job) but when I get back I'll check. I think it would be difficult using the standard thick cables, however, you could probably run one of the ultra-thin ones through with no problem. I'll double check for you next week when I return.

Outlined in the main post.

Presently, it can only be done via the mimic, however, Tilta will be working on implementing that into their app here shortly - just got confirmation from them and they claimed it would be easy to incorporate!

Hi
Is there a minimum payload? Is 11 pounds official? Can it work looking 90 deg. down?
Thank you

Guys, please read the first post and check the site linked.

Interested. Gravity +Armorman...

I have the Gravity and ArmorMan 2 Review

I have the Gravity and ArmorMan 2 Review

All,
I've had the Gravity for about 3 weeks and today used it in tandem with the Armor Man2. Unfortunately I am new to gimbals and you should take that into consideration as you read on.
The Gravity does indeed work right out of the box. The remote system however is buggy and my several attempts to control the camera even with the slightest movement makes the camera move wildly. The support for the Gravity (as well as the manual) is superficial. There is also a smartphone app which can be used in unison but (especially for me being new to gimbals) lacks any obvious presets and directions to tune the unit.
I am mounting a Fs7 and it was quite easy to balance--although it took me several viewings of Ronin "how to" videos to decipher the Gravity manual.
Of course it is a beast to shoot for more than 5 minutes and I looked forward to the Armor Mans arrival. Astoundingly, the Armor Man came with even less information than the Gravity! No "how to" build it or what tunes what! Regardless it was fairly easy to build. Once on it absolutely supports the rig. All weight is off of shoulders and arms; transferring it to the hips with slight to noticeable pressure to the lower back. It is a marvel. I've worn it twice now both times in excess of 30 minutes, I'm sure it's feasible to work it for hours.
It's not perfect as footsteps seem to be more obvious in the footage--no doubt a mixture of physics, tuning and my inexperience. But maybe that's a trade off you're willing to do for the longevity you can get.

And finally it sucks to be a new adopter of new gear; I've been monitoring the Internet every 24 hours for postings on both pieces of equipment and there's scant little--in fact this post (as inferior as it is) is as close as you're going to get as a users review.

Maybe you can contact Björn, he posted this a while back. Seems he should have some experience regarding Amor man by now
Just got the Tilta Armor man II... this shit makes me able to do takes that are hours long no problem more steady than most steady cam operators... and I´m just a post guy fiddling with these things, imagine if somebody actually put some effort in and put a few years experience on their craft then Im sure gimbals will out preform steady cams no doubt.

This was just me running the camera when going from the spot where we where filming to the car. Without even really trying, but Armor man takes the steps away and ease on the arms, I can easily do the same with only one hand.

For the Armorman, make sure you tension the springs correctly. If they are tensioned too tightly, you'll transfer your foot movement to the arms. Also helps to not walk flat footed, but more of a rolling motion onto your feet as you walk.

For the Gravity and the app's ease of use, Tilta has already sent another update to apple and are awaiting it's approval. The new update will make understanding the Gravity's functions/controls much easier. They will also be adding the lock axis feature as well soon!

Hey Chris - as we're fast approaching the 30 orders threshold - once we hit it - can we pay and get the order processed and get gimbal shipped sooner? I have some projects in early-mid Sep that I would love to use the Gravity for. Thanks

I'll check and see.

I would also be interested in this. I read the original post to see how quickly things will shipped out, but didn't see (sorry if this was covered elsewhere). As we are only 1 or 2 orders away from max tier, I would love to pay for the Armorman right away and have it shipped ASAP. I would need it in NYC by end of next week to work on this job I have. It's tight... I know :) Would love to get this earning $ back ASAP, that's all. No idea what the lead time is though. Thanks!

I don't think having it in your hands by next week would be doable. They will order from China and have shipped here. Even if they ordered today, delivery to you, wherever you are, is probably unlikely by next week. As soon as we hit the max tier however, ordering can commence.

Hi, should you find yourself looking for options, Gaston at HD House in Miami, frequent contributor to these pages, has the newly released Ready Rig with Pro Arms that could get you through the gig. Likely there's a more local source for you but possibly not since these are a new release and mostly on back order. (I also saw one of the first 50 new Heliums getting a trial at his shop couple weeks ago.) I would guess Armor Man 2 still made of unobtanium for rent since so new.

Hi Guys
I just don't get it, I'm a veteran Steadicam Op with 20 years experience in stabilizing cameras both on land, sea and in the air, and have embraced the gimbal explosion to no end, I think its brilliant! I've had MoVi M10's, M15's and the Ronin's.... and I also own Tilta products... which are brilliant.... but for the life of me cannot understand why with all the fantastic technological leaps and bounds that we have achieved in the recent years to conquer the perfect horizon.... WHY are we still having to deal with cables? Why can't Tilta/FreeFly/DJI bring out a Gimbal that has slip-rings which carry not only your camera power, but your HDMI, HD-SDI via a BNC, Time code and Aux Power..... I'm so fed up of being handed a ball of spaghetti... and saying its better than a Steadicam... if all the cables were run externally on a Steadicam we'd simply not buy it or just send it back... the days of 'Meccano Gimbals' need to end!

The Letus Helix has slip-rings for power and SDI.

I thought I remember Tilta talking about a slip ring of some sort, but I don't have it in front of me at the moment. I'll check and let ya know. I do know the SDI cable has already been integrated and they have some power integration as well.
