  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GROUP BUY - Litepanels Gemini

I also have the dial issue

I am trying to determine if it is a hardware issue or software or both. Physically, my left knob felt looser than the other two. For those experiencing the issue, does your knob feel loose as well?

To me it seems like SW issue knob feels solid on mine

Gonna take it in and have them look at it just got this from Vitec "This is the first we hear of the issue described, we would love to get the unit in to our engineering offices for a full inspection and evaluation."

All 3 of my units have this symptom. 2 of my units are several months old and did not come from this group buy.
The response of the encoder knobs are flaky but still very usable. I’m on the latest firmware on all 3 units.

Hmm, then that sounds like it is prob a software/firmware issue?

None of my 3 units has any dial issue. Dongles are still all no go tho

i did yes...newest firmware...did not work before...doesn't work now.

I'm curious what people are doing for battery solutions to power the Gemini?

I've been looking around for a solution to take a couple of V-mount (or gold mount) batteries to power the Gemini. I have a few 270wh hi-rate discharge v-mount batteries that would love to power the Gemini. :)

There is a solution coming soon from Anton Bauer.

Bad news, took it in to Vitec, guy said it was probably a hardware issue with the jog dial. He is currently taking it apart and they are shipping me another one. Hope this one doesn't have the same issue.

So I just updated the Firmware and did some more testing, I am convinced this is a firmware bug. The accuracy of all three dials are off and values jump around significantly. I have a bunch of synthesizers and have had several with rotary encoders with accuracy issues exactly like this, some fixed by firmware updates and others with either poor support and no updates to fix or just a mismatch of encoder design and microprocessor thresholds, the latter being a big oops in original design. My hope is Litepanels/Vitec can provide a firmware update to resolve this issue, as it can be pretty bad and extremely frustrating at times when trying to make very minor adjustments via all three dials. If not fingers crossed this will not be an issue with the BT dongle and app as I will likely use that the most when it shows up. Can somebody with a BT dongle in hand check for adjustment accuracy via app?

The light itself is a beast and works very well :) Happy with purchase!

you could be right, just got this from Vitec support,

"We currently are not aware of a hardware or component level discrepancy with the Gemini light fixture. We are currently reviewing your fixture and are still examining the root issue with this particular unit, this might be a firmware fix.
If other users are experiencing the same issue we encourage them to message servicesupport@vitecgroup.com and start a similar process as you did while we continue to investigate and find out what exactly is going on.

Again, your unit was the first to complain of this issue."

So if you are having the same problems you should reach out let them know.
