  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy: L'Aigle Exoskeleton

Hi Carey,

Ok i´ll stay as long as i don´t have to put down any money yet, but i´m quite sure i won't go for it.

Well you are bulkier than a steadicam when it comes to the with of the system, since you have two arms sticking out left and right.
It´s also an awkward feeling when you change the gimbal from two hand operation to one hand operation, cause the unused hand will be forced up from the tension of the rubber bands and the oterhw with the gimbal goes down.
As i said, i like the general idea of the system, and it might be cool for an operator if he needs to go for long takes, but i don't really see it for my purpose.

I would definitely like to see a video of the recalibration of the system. Say going from a 30lbs package to a 15 and back again.

Carey - your actions and your words are consistently more confidence-inpsiring and persuasive. I just want to commend you for keeping on top of all the potential issues and looking to solve them before-the-fact. You must have learned a lot of patience dealing with, uh.. previous group buys.

Thanks Terry! Yes, I have learned a ton, and continue to do so. I am very passionate and do care deeply about everything I do. I believe it translates into good results.

4. I don't see using the Exoskeleton all the time on every shot. I never saw it that way. I always saw it, and the AP Runner, as a specialty piece of gear that would be used for certain circumstances. Like long sequence shots, shots from a moving vehicle and running shots. (maybe that's why AP calls theirs "The Runner".) Would it be ideal if it was an extension of your body that could be worn all day long? Sure. Is that where this is headed? Yes. Are we there yet? Maybe not.

I can see myself using it for almost any shot where I need to move with the gimbal. It will help with the vertical stabilization. Also, I will be the first to admit that the Ronin with a fully-loaded Epic is too heavy for me to be lifting all day long. I really haven't been lifting weights like I should... I guess its time to dust off the old bowflex.

Honnestly, I started workout 5 years ago when I discover the glidecam 2000 pro and even with hardwork (And good nutrition) it's really hard to keep up the Ronin all day with Scarlet + SmallHD + HD transmitter + Ronin + 1.5kg V-Mount. I just come back from a shoot, first two hours are quite good, but after that my arms are shaking in 20 seconds.

The compagny is 30 minutes away from my home, I will try to stop by before entering in the group buy!

Yeah, it doesn't matter how much muscle you have. People with more muscle have heavier arms that they have to lift too. It's exhausting on a long shoot and it hurts your back to hold heavy weight out in front of you like that.

Hold on to your hats guys, I have a really big announcement coming today at 9pm Eastern.

Carey...hehe...obviously paid attention to Jannard and Red...when they would pre-announce those big announcements it would really build up
attention and excitement and then practically crash the site.

Some how I knew this will happen :sifone:, now that Runner group-buy is up :smash:Hummmm.... a lot of changes

Special Announcement:

The L’Aigle Exoskeleton is undergoing some very significant new design changes which will drastically improve its form and function. (Note: There will be no additional cost for any of these improvements).

1. The newly designed Exoarms will be CNC Milled parts instead of sheet metal parts. It will have an overall sleeker, organic and more futuristic design.

2. The newly designed hands Interface will replace the existing forearm interface.

3. Option to alternate to direct Exoarms-To-Gimbal connection to completely remove any solicitation on the operator’s arms.

4. “ORBITAL SCAPULA” with torsion springs allow the operator to stow the Exoarms along and behind his/her body. The "Magnet-locked" folded position of the Exoarms will prevent the arms from swinging freely once you remove your arms from the Exoarms.

5. The final production model will be very lightweight (one of the most important features on an exoskeleton)

6. The main top aluminum back shell will be designed to be adjusted as high as possible on the operators back for optimum load distribution.

7. The padded belt connects securely under the belly button. It braces and connects to the rear of the exoskeleton to prevent the belt from shifting up and sawing at your belly and midriff.

8. Again: Docking Stand provided (because we learned from from our testing from over a year ago, that you don’t want your Exoskeleton tossed on the ground or on a table. It is different from a backpack and quite difficult to put on with Exoarms swinging around)

9. THIS IS A BIG ONE: Newly developed Knob adjustments of the Exoarms (as seen in the picture below). This will allow the operator to release the tension from the Exoarms all by himself so that he can set the gimbal down and have normal use of his arms without having to remove himself from the rig - essentially allowing him to wear the rig for extended periods of times i.e. throughout the course entire set-ups.

So they are going to make it more like the Runner. Good because what I saw at IBC while functional was ugly as hell.
