  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy: K-FLECT lighting System

Guys.

Im im going to try to put a little video together to help explain things. It will all be with the 10x10 panels but it should give you a sense of what kind of flexibility it provides.

I hope to have it Wednesday.

Cheers,

Thought one would need the large 100x100 sizes to be able to "light" or "reflect" a wide room area in a master shot.
Are all the reflectors made of aluminum..?

And do they operate just like regular shiny boards..? or is there more control available to them from their specific design..being
more akin to direct/focus a light and cut it with barndoors but with just a reflector..?

Steve,

The panels can and do act like lights with bar doors or floods or spots depending on what is in place and what size.

Even a small 10x10 can give you a broad soft light depending on the one you choose. Others can have the effect of a snoot or a dedo spot. Part of this can be figured out by looking at the samples.

1 is pretty much a mirror
2 creates a different kind of broader light.
Etc.

I'll talk to Frederic about how they lit an entire parking lot with a 1.2 k. I'll ask him for a sort of lighting diagram as well. In the meantime I'll try to do some smaller scale samples and create a mini set to show what can be done with this tiny little kit I have.

Hi David,

thank you very much for this group buy
I am Very interested too, but a bit lost on the website. I saw the DOP kit and XL kit (and the price is outdated) but where are Mini starter kit, TT starter kit and K-box TT kit ?

Hi guys,

Just a little update.

I did shoot some little iphone videos tonight along with a little moco tabletop thingy as a very quick and dirty sample, while I was prepping for a shoot tomorrow. I hope to get around to posting them at some point tomorrow evening.

Cheers,

Battistella

anyone who wants to get in on the group pricing needs to email me and I will send through all the details.

Ok guys,

I've done 4 different setups with videos so you can get a peak at what is going on. I will also post r3d frames. I set up a small moco tabletop test with some tea.

the slate has a lighting diagram with the kflect panel numbers used for that shot. All done with 10x10 panels, shot on RPP 50mm maybe at 4 or 5.6 I really didn't check.

Here is a peek at the jpgs, everything else, r3ds and movies are still uploading.

A few years back I was in talks to bring Christian Berger to NAB to demonstrate the system. It didn't work out because of schedules but I think a workshop demonstrating this system would be a great idea. Perhaps an online version could be made (charging a fee) to accommodate those who can't make it in person. I think it's a system that is best seen in action to truly appreciate.

I second this. I think in order for people to be behind a group buy need to first really grip this lighting concept. This GB ends in 4 days! Can we get an extension so all questions are explained away?

Cool stuff David. What was the light source?

LUPO DAYled 1000 fresnel, corrected with a magenta gel as it has a slight green shift, draws 90w and can be powered from vmount.

The videos I did are uploading now. They should help.

Totally agree re and I am working on this. I don't think IBC is the time to do it because there is a lot of confusion, but maybe I can combine this with the Leica R summit I am planning here in Italy in early october.

I'd do an online version for sure.

Ciao Davide,

Could you enquire, please, regarding any previous sales to a US based purchaser, with delivery to US and what the customs charges/fees were?

Grazie

Hi marcos,

im working on that as well. People familiar with the system have already ordered. I'm working on getting a few larger panels. This started out as a little tabletop thing, but the interest is really growing.

I agree with you. I really want people to see how cool working this way is and can be. I'm wrapping my head around it every day. I tell you, your, reflection awareness goes through the roof as you start thinking more in terms of reflected light than direct light.

Thanks

Hi Antoine,

Have been working on these answers for you and I'll try to get back to you over the weekend.

Cheers,

Battistella

Hi David, do you have any answer? Today might be my last day to take a decision, so I really need answers as soon as possible. Thanks a lot for your time and effort.

ciao,

We made a first selection with Patrick Tresch, but we have a few questions:
-Does the shape of light change when you turn the Concave and Convex K-Flector?

-Is there any weight info on the K-Flector?

The shape of the light does not change when you turn the concave or convex reflector.

a single 10x10 panel weighs about 33grams.

I think a lot of these questions can be answered when you place your order. They are quite helpful.
