  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy: K-FLECT lighting System

This video shows the Pani equipment but it gives a good intro to the reflective concept.

At 9:00 there is intro to the reflectors and
at 12:00 Christian Berger uses some some 1ft. reflectors.

But at 20:00 mark they compare night exterior reslut with Panibeam against
a 1200 HMI which looks very dim and an open face 4K PAR which is brighter
but has a hot spot and no foreground/background differentiation.

This makes me wonder of the usefulness of the reflectors without the parallel beam light source.

You're right Steve. For outdoor large coverage, they're a point where you simply need a brighter source to really take advantage of the reflector concept. They did a great job on adapting the Joker to make it really bright and parallel beam. Thats why I think the system really shines indoors with lights that may exist in your kit already.

Yes..there is an indoor shot in the video where they use dedo lights and reflect them.

Joker with the parallel beam looks great for night exterior but looks like cost is $10-11k
But perhaps outdoors day exterior is best use of these reflectors since the sun is the ultimate
parallel beam source.

Deakins touches on this in his posts in the thread.

Great find Steve,

I remember seeing this a while back. It's good because you get a sense of the system and what can be done with both large and small sources and how precise the light is and what the different a surfaces do. I think that this kind of system really can add a lot of tools for the smaller Indy films and also as a great kit to have almond side regular lighting. You get a goos sense of how a simple 30x30 panel can reflect light onto a large area and how having a series of reflective surfaces can emulate spots, floods, etc.

it's a great technical video and overview.

Just a small reminder that the Group buy ends today.

The response has been quite amazing. I'm glad people have taken advantage of the generous discounts offered.

It's been fun.

Hope to see some samples soon of how people use their kits.

Mini update.

Here is a handy chart for selecting how and which magnets and magbones might be needed with specific reflectors.
