  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy - Hexolux LED Spotlights

Interesting design. This looks like a light Iron Man would use. Count me in.

I'm interested. Do these have a green shift in either the tungsten or daylight lamps?

No. We live tested them against several other light sources with an Epic/RCX at REDucation with Peter Collister on Monday. Made the 1st generation Lite Panels look real green by comparison (although I think they have fixed that issue to some degree with their current model). Real pure, balanced color spectrum from what I and others saw.

These lights look fantastic. Will they be both 110/220v?

1/4 20 mounts on the light fixture are a great idea, as well as the witness marks for tilt shift and spot to flood. It's expensive but has some great features.

What kind of power draw would a 7 series have vs your typical HMI?

HID's also suffer from the same hell hot issues as incandescent sources so that precludes using non-fire rated accessories, lenses and modifiers. BTW: I own the K5600 products which are great but not near as thought out as these from an optical / mechanical engineering and ease of use perspective. HID lamps are expensive, fragile and don't last 10 years ;-)

At NAB Hexolux will present their 4x cluster bomb that will go after the 4K set and auto and large scale studio market. I'm in for 3 of those to mount in the ceiling above my white cove studio walls to provide a real nice wash. Hopefully all of their products will be DMX controllable to allow real inexpensive remote / central dimming and control. That would be real cool

That is very useful. Good Video. I like this kind of innovation.

I have been using the LUPOlux http://www.lovegroveconsulting.com/lupo_spotlights.aspx which are very nice fresnels but not as versatile as these.

I only have one question. Are they Hotstrike or is there a warmup period?

Battistella

Hotstrike is only an issue with "arc" style HID/Sodium bulbs. LED's are instant on/off and don't suffer the warm up time issues that PL's (fluorescents) have. PL's aren't a consideration in spotlight design since the bulb is huge and, therefore, non-focusable.

Glad you liked the vid. Funny with all that gear at REDed - I reach for the iPhone to shoot . . . 1080P stabilized, AE with built-in auto level mic ;-)

You can see the AWB freaking out in some sections when we had both 3200 and 5600K lights on together

I think I can guess the answers, but what are the pros/cons vs the BB&S Area48 Softs? I've fallen in love with them and the remote phosphor tech.

Break it down for us ZEB.

Iron Man uses Hexolux ;-)

The Area48 Softs are a replacement for Lite Panels or Kinos - to do mini softbox work.

The Hexolux D7 is a focusable spotlight that can also be used for softbox work making them at least twice as versatile in my view. Once they get the adapters for ProFoto and Bron this will be a game changer.

Nice -

I'd be cool to create the group buy around NAB so we can check them out in person.

Thanks

The Phosphor lights are nice broad soft sources that don't have multiple shadows as the light is emitted from a single panel. They are also swappable for daylight or tungsten. But they will always remain a soft source. The Hex is like any Fresnel, a harder source but can be bounced or put into a soft box. Both great lights but I would also edge out the Hex for versatility.
