  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GROUP BUY - eMotimo ST4 + Dana Dolly

Thanks Matt! I have a RRS BH-55, use it for still photography. Maybe the RRS would work all the time, thanks for the suggestion. I was referring to the original picture in this thread by Phil.

Ah, gotcha. That looks like a Kessler Kwik clamp screwed on a half ball.

plus something like this:

+1 ST4 w/ DD

Definitely a no brainer deal.

Wow. So we're at 28 group buy participants, which means we're 2 away from the top tier 4 discount of 25%/20% off the ST4/DD respectively.

As mentioned, if we do get there earlier than expected I think we can get Brian and Mike to process orders early on because we would have hit top tier.

There's a lot of ways of mounting and you can even remove a bold to do other things but generally:

You'll looking for an Arca Swiss Plate compatible quick release. I am indeed using Kessler's Kwik Release on top of a 100mm ball. I find the ball provides an additional layer of control when leveling on tricky surfaces or straightening out lines within a move.

The motor bolts onto the Dana Dolly platform, which is exactly what that sounds like.

The two belt clamps attach via finger tightening bolts on either end of the track on the Universal or "OG" track brackets from Dana Dolly.

You have some vertical adjustment control on the both the gears on the motor and how you rig the cable in case you are doing "weird things", but for me I've pretty much have it set to one height and that's how I run.

Mounting the camera is either a bolt or you can add some sort of plate into the mix to get creative. Ideally you want to balance the camera weight the best you can, but the eMotimo motors are pretty strong to deal with a bit of off axis balance.

- Malik Moore: ST4

Made it copy paste friendly.

Does that setup, on the front page of this GB, have any panning issues? I can’t see under the ST4, but is there some type of rise to avoid friction with the quick release plate?

Also, are there any other deals going on with the Dana Dolly? I don’t have a need for the rental version. I think might be interested in the Dana Dolly Universal kit: https://www.shop.danadolly.com/Dana-Dolly-Universal-Kit-DDUK1.htm

Lastly, are those anti tilt brackets connected to that setup (front page)?

I'll loop around with Mike and Brian, see what's possible there. I don't have the anti-tilt brackets on my setup seen on the first post.

But yep, with you're +1 we are 1 away from the big Tier 4. And I appreciate the copypasta!

Don’t see me on the list, am I number 30?

Ah!

Missed your post, but added you in your correct position.

We are somehow at Tier 4 rather quickly. Talking to Brian now about how to move forward here to get orders processed sooner than later.

Very nice work. That's a max discount of 25% of the eMotimo ST4 and 20% off the Dana Dolly Rental Kit.

Standby and I'll let you know what we're doing.

Any experience using the portable track offered by Dana Dolly, and if rigid enough would this be something that could be included in group buy?

I was just looking at these on their site and I'm also very interested in hearing user feedback and curious if they could be added to the DD group buy order.

The newer round tube portable track is pretty great. Compact enough to throw over your shoulder and even hike into a place with. The triangular pipe is very strong, but significantly heavier. I'd say best deployed in a studio or interior setting.

If you're curious I run 2 ways mainly these days. Portable round track is with me at most times. I also leave a short run of about 4-ish feet "always assembled" in the track ends, so I can just place it down on set and go to the pipe if I need a longer run.

I personally I'm using apple boxes most of the time, but I often will use the Matthew's Slider Stands. American Grip just released some new stands that are optimized for the DD that are worth looking at.

I'll ask about pipe inclusion for the GB. We're working on the form now to get you guys rolling on the orders as we've hit top tier. I think Brian will give you access to some additional accessories at the time of checkout and we'll see if Mike can do the same.

Found a way to try the st4 tomorrow will know for sure then if I will join the gb, just want to make sure you're not closing it up today if you decide to close the gb before tomorrow then count me in for a st4 and I might be interested in a dd if there is possible to get in on smaller kit like an universal 150 kit!
