  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Well with you two added we're now in Tier 2 at 15% and we're early in the GB, which is good. Just need another 5 to T3 and another 10 on top of that for T4.

Idea. If we hit Tier 4 quickly, I'll reach out to eMotimo and DD to see if we can start processing orders before the GB is actually over. At that point we'll be at top tier and I don't see any real reason to delay it if we get there.

If Tier 4 is 30 units then we need another 10 for T4 from T3, or is T4 25 units?

The response has been great. We are excited there is interest and we are hitting tiers early!

To answer a few more questions:

Will the eMotimo ST4 work with a Kessler Shuttle dolly?
Goal with the Dana Dolly is simple, fast, reliable setup. It took us a while to get this right so don't want to assume that customer adaptations are going to give the same results. We do plan to keep on creating integrations with the right vendors and to serve the customers, but a turnkey integration kit for Kessler Shuttle dolly isn't available or currenty planned.

So this won't work out of the box, but we have a few users who have modified this kit to work with other speed rail solutions. For mechanics, you need secure end mounting of the belts which the Kessler system I think has by default with relatively standard XL belt, the challenge then is securing the motor in the right place so the drive system is perfectly aligned. Looks like they mount the motor mount is mounted above the plate, and our default is mount low, under the carriage to keep our CG low. If you have machine skills, this isn't too difficult to create an adapter, but it won't be plug and play like with the Dana Dolly.

How long (distance) of a move can you do with this setup?

Depends on belt length of course. There is no technical limit by software, but we are belt driven so you need you length of the run + about 1 foot for belt wrap around motor and end mounts. Belt slack and tension does become a factor with longer runs so there are some considerations based on your move speeds and payload. We sell belt by the foot to help with the longer setups.

Hey Brian,

Is there any way to know with a bit more detail when an idea of what the upcoming solution to the scenario I'd enquired about previously (Saving move-data from the ST4 and being able to reload / recreate a move on a different day) may be unveiled?

I would love to join in on the group buy, since the product looks very strong, but this feature is quite crucial for my application, so would be great to know if it is unlikely there will be any information/roadmap on this during the GB period :)

Thanks!
Mohammed

in for ST4 + Dana Dolly!

I am really interested in using this underslung under the rails. I noticed in the promo video it was demoed like this. Are there any limitations or considerations we should be aware of if we plan to use it like that?

Hey Brian,
What is the standard belt length that ships with the kit?

Ships with 11 feet of belt for a 10 foot run. We can include more with a price per foot https://emotimo.com/products/xl-belt-by-the-foot

Keep in mind that underslung the dolly reamains above track and you mount the spectrum ST4 upsidedown. Depending on the camera you may mount upsidedown and need to flip footage in post, or set it up in camera.

Additionally, you will need to bring the mounting of the spectrum a bit lower. The need here is getting our panning base to clear wheels and track and belt. We used a Ballhead we had laying around, but other heads or spacers will work. You need about 4 inches from the bottom of the Dana Dolly carriage to the panning base of the spectrum. When mounted upright, this space is typically about 2 inches.

Mohammed - I am working on showing this feature within the group buy period for sure. Stay tuned!

would like to know if a move can be repeated/loaded at a later time

+1 for st4 + DD : Tier 3/4.

Cheers!

Hey, Brian.
Do you happen to know how this setup was achieved? https://www.instagram.com/p/Bcna_m-AuSR/?taken-by=matthewsgrip
I would love to utilize this product with my dutti dolly.

Neato, didn't even know anyone was doing this until you showed us (you can see the ST4 / remote on the sled).

This falls under the same path of integration to the Kessler Shuttle Dolly. We think a customer purchased and adapted the kit with some machine skills. Grips aren't afraid to drill some holes and mount thing up! While this looks like it works ok for this sort of run, we would definitely have some advice for keeping the belts runs perfectly in line with the exit pulley from the motor. As you get closer to the ends, the tension will increase as the angle of the belt changes. So, clever adaptation, but likely some compromises on using the full length of track in it's current form.

We are getting more requests for more integrations, with other companies. We keep track internally and if the voices from the customers are great enough in number to make developing a kit worth it, we will. As always we are stoked to work with Mike Hall and Dana Dolly as his openness and willingness to integrate has been a refreshing change. This collaboration has really created a super simple drop in kit that enables you to get shooting fast and simply.

Also, its been a couple days since the totals were updated, but as of this morning, I believe (and please correct me if I am wrong), we have reached Tier 3. For all those that were contingent on getting there, I am glad you are in! Phil, check the math and please update whenever your hair is not on fire (not sure he ever slows down).

Hey All,

Since I happen to live in San Diego I reached out to Brian and yesterday he gave me and a couple other local shooter a demo at there workshop. What a great concept and works very well with a Dana dolly. We also tested it with a FS7 and Fujinon MK zoom and the motors handled it flawlessly. I can see many uses for this system.

I plan to start with the Dana dolly system and down the road add a smaller slider for a more potable time-lapse setup. Its great to see innovation like this and in speaking with Brian it is clear he is planing to implement new features down the road as well.
