  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GROUP BUY: Cinegears Wireless Follow Focus Christmas Special!

Just awaiting the 4-Port D-Tap Female Cable Splitter for V-mount Battery and RED trigger, but apart from that all looks great! Will test soon, and hopefully have a review video up in the next week or so :) Cheers Chris and Steven!

Just received mine 5 minutes ago, luckily the DHL guy called me as I was 5 minutes away from my house. He was nice and waited.
Everything seems to be there. Looks great, and feels great. Unfortunately my partner took the rest of our gear to the mountains, so I can´t test it out until after the new year.

Anyway, thanks for setting up the group buy.

I am waiting to hear when they will send a replacement motor as my one doesn't work ( tried taking it out of protected mode) , and my unit was was missing some gears and cables also that i thought the express plus came with. Aside from that its looks ok, frustrating that its missing some pieces and not working. Just bad luck on my part i expect.

They shipped mine DHL and it arrived remarkably fast. I think it was 3-4 days.

Unfortunately I too may have received a bad motor. Either that or I am in need of the Extreme motor. (RPZ 18-85?) I'm ordering the upgrade right away.

First impressions:

Everything seems extremely well made so far in terms of build quality. I was really impressed when I first started playing around with it.

However my motor is awefully noisy. Again, perhaps I receeved a bad one. If my new extreme motor is just as noisy I think I'll be sending the whole kit back. It's that loud. :(

Was it loud in real world situations or just whacking it back and forth? In my experience the normal motor should be quieter than an M-one.

Nick

You shouldn't be experiencing a loud motor unless, like Nick said, you're whacking it back and forth. Under general operation, it's very quite. You could have a bad motor Troy. Also, make sure you don't have too much pressure applied from the motor gear to the lens gear. That could be a reason why you're experiencing more noise.

Yeah, I bet I just have a bad motor, which is great news. It sound "kinda grindy" even when it's not engaged with the lens. I wonder if maybe I don't even need the upgrade? Who knows. But even after the $300 upgrade, if the new motor works well, this could be the best value in any piece of kit I've ever purchased.

Anyone else using the standard motor on the RPZ 18-85?

BTW Thanks Chris for making this happen! :)

Yea, it shouldn't sound like that at all. Cinegears will take good care of you!

Oh and my pleasure at putting this together. More will come from them in the very near future.

Troy sounds like its a bad motor, same boat as me. I've been told a new one is being dispatched, an hoping the rest of the bits come with it, and i don't get stung with customs again.
If i get a second dud motor ill be sending back for refund.

Hey guys!
I wanted to ask couple questions about Cinegears.

How are the motor loudness? I checked all the YouTube videos I could find featuring Cinegears with real sound and couple of them were pretty loud for sound recording on set.
It sounded that boom could pick the sound up really easily, for example, one guy had lav on him and I could still hear the motor spinning.
Is it ok for you guys, the motors? Not as loud as I described? (tough to judge by the videos which are even not made to show the loudness of the motors).

And second question - how is the delay? Is it possible, if there is slight change at the scene, how actor stands or so, on close-ups, to correct your focus fast in small doses, like if the actor is moving, getting a bit closer to the camera and then again a bit further from camera, - is it possible to follow his movements flawlessly (not accountingthe skills of the puller, put just the performance of the unit)?

Is it possible to even compare this unit to BarTech, C-motion and the likes?

Thank you!

The cinegears is quieter than a bartec with an m-one motor. As far as responsiveness, it's on par with the bartech. It's lighter, and has more features. I don't see using my bartech anymore.

Got my kit today and found the following errors:
1) was sent a standard motor when I ordered the extreme motor
2) kit was missing the red trigger cable
3) waiting for confirmation but think I received the standard controller when I ordered the upgrade as well.
4) Also can't seem to get my DTap cable to fit into any DTap Outlets as the prongs seem too large. Anyone else have this problem?

Give the d tap connector a firm push. Mine didn't fit at first but eventually snapped it. Motor is noisy on startup and stop. And missing some accessories- emailed customer service and company direct 7 days ago and haven't had a response. Probably gonna send the unit back.

Yea, they may be having some QC issues which sucks. They knew orders would be coming in, I warned them as much as I could to be ready. Trying to communicate all of our frustration to Steven so this can all get sorted out. Sorry some of you are having issues guys. I set this group buy up, so I feel partially accountable. It WILL all get made right.
