  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GROUP BUY: Cinegears Wireless Follow Focus Christmas Special!

I noticed the lock out that happens when you use the presets, but it really just makes sense. Say you're handwheel is set at 2' and you press a preset button set for 6', the handwheel doesn't have a motor that will turn it to the 6' mark... all you have to do is press that same preset button again and it gives you handwheel control again, and you'll notice when this happens that the motor will take your lens back to where you left it on the handwheel, 2'.

Hello everyone,

Thank for your patience and understanding.

Ok so finally received all the gear for my kit and have to say, I'm very pleasantly surprised by the quality. At this price point I wasn't expecting much and probably wouldn't have bought without the 60 day money back guarantee, but tried out the system the other night and found it to work very comparably to a bartech. The range is fantastic, the response is pretty darn fast, and once it is attached to a lens I didn't notice any noise issues. The only cons I see with the unit are the small knob on the controller and on long pulls it seems to struggle just a bit and it takes a few minutes to connect sometimes when calibrating the lens, but again for the price point, it's hard to complain about those issues. The PTap cables do have unusually large prongs which is a bit annoying but with some pressure they fit in and work fine, I just hope I'm not damaging the female ports. All-in-all very happy with this purchase.

That does not make sense to me. Suppose your preset takes you to a focus point and then you need to follow an actor -- you can't adjust from that point.

Has anyone found a user guide? I have the videos but it does not discuss this aspect at all. Perhaps Steven can weigh in?

I'd recommend not using the focus preset mode if you are intending on making fine adjustments with the wheel after you set your marks. This mode is to be used when the camera is set on a fixed point and your subjects are stagnant or stay within the same focal plane.

If you intend to 'follow' the focus of your subject in the frame, set your marks on the wheel with a dry erase marker and then you are free to make fine adjustments if actors drift from their marks.

Two different modes for two totally different applications, and it makes a lot of sense locking the wheel to keep from drifting from set marks on focus preset mode.

It's pretty clearly stated that when using the presets, the wheel is disabled. it wouldn't make any sense to hit a preset and then adjust the wheel. All of your marks would be totally off, and you would have to recalibrate to get back to where you wanted to be. I don't know of any system out there that behaves as you suggest for that exact reason.

Cheers,

Nick

I received my unit and finally got a chance to take a look at it. I like the built quality.
What battery solution are you guys using? I'll be using the FF on a new lightweight rig and am looking for a simple, lightweight battery. It likely won't need to power anything else.

Used mine on long 8 hour plus shoots and only had to plug it in at lunch daily.

Twice precautionary once it actually drained.

Ok... I'm looking for a lighter weight solution that will only power the motor. Any ideas?
To be clear, on your comment, you got a half day of life out of the controller?

I can honestly more than a half but there were hot conditions that might have affected the battery.

I wonder if I can power the Motor with Morphie's?

I might give that a shot but need to see if I have a USB to Lemo in that package.

You're liking the Cine gears that much?

I've been looking for a solution for a long time... so I'm hoping it lives up to the hype

I dont have extensive experience with others even though I work with an RT Motion.

But the FF I worked with on the movies is a BarTech guy and loves this unit.

Has anyone received their Red start/stop trigger? Mine wasn't in the package and I believe somewhere on here it said they'd be shipped out later. Maybe it's still on it's way, but I just want to make sure I'm not being left in the dark. Thanks!
