  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GROUP BUY: Cinegears Wireless Follow Focus Christmas Special!

I'm in for the express plus and high torque motor options ;)

I own one of these and this really is unbeateable for the price. But disregarding the price is still a really good piece of kit. I use it with my Ronin all the time, as I really enjoy the lack of receiver. The noise of the motor is really a non issue. The Ronin makes more noise than the motor and I still have to hear any comments from the audio peanut gallery...
the AC's have enjoyed it very much. Went from skeptical to happy users...

It's not noisy at all. The Epic's fan is so much louder. It's quiet. You shouldn't have any issues with sound. I've shot in multiple situations while audio was incredibly important, and the sound department never said a word.

If you're less than a foot from your talent and right next to theic, you may hear something, but that's about it.

In Terms of all these custom orders, I'll talk to Steven, but I think the best option will maybe be to have a discount, say 15-20% off for extra accessories as part of the group buy. All these custom requests can't be worked directly into the group buy, so I'll push for that extra discount.

Really don't worry about noise. Is it more than a Preston or Heden? Sure. Is it a problem? Not one bit. It's actually less noisy than an M1 motor, and that has been very used in many sets around the world. Never an issue.

Hi chris. One question. Can we have delivery from a european dealer to avoid paying customs and vat? Otherwise it would end up more expensive than buying it without a discount.? Thanks.

This is VERY special pricing just through cinegears directly, not through any one of their distributors. So I'm almost positive you're going to have to pay for the international shipping rate of $100.

At work we have the RT Motion and that unit has gone through hell and back with firmware updates.

I dont even know if the Cinegears ever had to update any firmware to date.

Im about to give up the Standard controller for the Express, you really think there is no use for the hard-stops?

Ive yet to use it was well. Ive been learning to use markings.

A friend likes the idea of the interchangeable Marking disks.

Ive set each one to each of my lenses (Rokinon Cine set).

He has a Bartech and is used to the paper tape option.

I personally don't really use hard stops....I much prefer the marking disc method with a dry-erase.

True, If we could receive it from a European dealer I would buy one also...

This is special pricing through Cinegears directly, not through one of their distributors. So you'll have to pay the $100 international shipping charge, but it's still a crazy deal!

Is there an option to swap out the marking disc? I'd love to have all my lenses marked already and just swap the disc out for the specific lens.
Also: Is there options for other rec/run cables? Like for the alexa, F5, F55, etc?

Probably gonna join in on this group buy lol.

Thanks.

You can order more marking discs. They are stuck on with magnets, so it comes off easily. I don't believe there is a run/stop cable for the Alex or Sony cams yet. I'm not sure if they have that coming down the pipeline anytime soon, though if there is enough of a demand, they may make it a priority. Let me know if you want in on the GB and which one.

See above

+1 express. I was just about to buy one of these. I'm glad I saw this. My only hitch is I need one for a shoot on dec. 13. Will this be possible?

Doubtful before the 13th. You could always rent as this is a killer savings!

Daniel, I'm a bit concerned about the noise on this video, did you hear it?

At 4'08"

This noise is not an issue. You have to make sure that when you attach the motor to your lens gears, that you don't apply too much pressure, as this will make the motor work harder, making more noise, and putting a lot more resistance on your lenses (this goes with any FF). Barely have the gears engaged, then tighten, but not overly. This will allow for the motor to work at it's optimum performance, and will put the least amount of pressure on your lenses.

Everyone has been added up to this point on the master list. Please check and make sure you're on there if you want to be and for the correct version, etc.

Hope you guys are all stuffing yourselves with delicious turkey!

For Canada orders it will be shipped from there Toronto location I am assuming? Do you know how much the finger wheel would be down the road?

Ok, here's an update. Orders will be shipped from both US and Canada. As mentioned, the express plus is $100 more and the high torque motor $300. All other accessories will get 15% off when you add them to your cart through this group buy!

I like the design of motors with the receiver/controller built in. It seems to me in light of the increased monstrosities in size and complexity of camera setups and growing need to decrease said size weight and complexity of on camera accessories for the increasing use of gimbals and the single purpose functionality of lens control motors in the first place I hope other manufacturers consider such combination motor/receiver/controller units. Lightweight gimbal mounted systems seem to be the way forward for many shots in motion, having the receiver built into the motor is the preferable design for such an application - hope other manufacturers follow suit and further reduce weight, chunkiness and wires of systems with separate motor controllers - they are unnecessarily clunky for gimbal operation and the Cinegear system has already proved that the design of separate controllers and motors is not an engineering necessary.

In the controller end though, I like the large graphic displays that I am seeing from Tilta (which looks like you may be able to program the distances markings of the lenses you are using and see nice clear distance readings and zoom and aperture settings float magically by on the screen - seems to be the most versatile to have that big display - (although I haven't got my hands on one to see it in action yet) I can imagine pulling focus seeing the action out of my peripheral vision but staring right at those big luscious feet readings scrolling smoothly by to pull clean focuses. It's nice to have marker pen markings and that big display right there providing a scrolling display (which is preferable to a changing digital display reading numbers because with the addition of the scrolling lens distance markings you will get a sense of the velocity of the move that you cannot get with just a digital display of numbers changing so the display is the clearly superior design because it offers both, so manufacturers should be moving towards these systems that provide not only smooth analogous motor movements but also smooth high resolution visual representations of those smooth motor movements.

Wish there was a marriage of the compact motor/receivers that Cinegears is offering with the impressive possibilities of these controllers with large retina like displays.

Every decision I make now has weight reduction and complexity reduction as a priority design consideration so these combo motors are a step in the right direction for lens control.

Was on a shoot yesterday with a Cinegear system and it worked effortlessly all day. Experienced AC happy which makes me happy. Count me in for a Single Axis Wireless Express Plus with standard motor plus international

and if your worrying about noise? Don't.. No noisier or quieter than any other system
only if the mic is inches from the camera and you are going stop to stop at full speed might you hear something.

its mechanical, its makes noise and its just as dependant on how the gears on your lenses are cut as its mainly gear to gear noise and unless you have some amazing new lens system its unavoidable physics

very interested will follow up in a couple of days if it reaches over 30 will get the plus with ht motor!!! This is great cause i am about to buy one anyways :)

Any chance for the multi-axis on the group buy?

Not currently in the works.

is this anything to do with Digital logic ? Or just their photo

and is this direct (and paying direct) to Cinegear?

and is that US or ca $ as they're canadian no?

thx
jas

Just a photo. Orders will be directly through Cinegears through a custom link they send. Shipping will be both from US and Canada.

Everyone else added.

Seems like a great unit, but I'm having some concerns, reservations about the sound issue with it. Concerned that it may only be useful when shooting mos. What is your experience?

Maybe the ikan wireless ff would be a better well rounded low cost option.

Is there any other wired silent ff units available lightweight that could be attached to a gimbal? Ideally with thumb wheel..?

no. Again, as other users have stated, sound is not an issue. Any time you have mechanical motors, you will hear something, but nothing that will bother sound dept. If you want silent operation, pull it off the barrel as that's pretty much the only near silent option. All we can say is that sound is not an issue, take it for what it's worth. It does have a 60-day money back guarantee, so if it really bothers you, ship it back and get a refund.
