  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GROUP BUY: Cinegears Wireless Follow Focus Christmas Special!

Is the high torque motor louder operating than the standard?

I'm interested in using this FF on Super Speeds, Master Primes and Leica glass.

NOISE:

Heden
Bartec
Preston
RT Motion

Redrock
Kessler
Cinegear

any others?

- Which unit makes the most and which makes the least?

- Which unit is the lightest and which is heaviest?

- Which has the most range and which has the least?

- Which is the easiest to setup and which is the most difficult?

What you are asking is really hard to quantify. It's like asking, what's better: a Jeep, a Miata or a BMW? Well, they all take you from A to B, but all in different ways.

I don't know some of the units you mentioned, but for the sake of what this thread is about, I would compare the Cinegears with the Digital Bartech. Main differences are that there is no separate receiver, the hand controller on he CG is a lot smaller and lighter, has a great internal battery and a built in light.
In terms of set up, with a lens with hard stops they are fairly comparable, with a manual set up, the CG is easier and more precise.
When it comes to precision, the CG really surprised me. I set up a lens with marks. Made sure I marked the disks precisely. I then unmounted the motor, physically reversed it and then Reversed the direction of rotation. Marks still matched perfectly. Then I changed the gear on the motor to a different size gear. Recalibrated and expected it not to match. But it still did!

I own a Preston, a Digital Bartech and the CineGears. When 1 channel only is needed, I go with the Cinegears.

Great post Daniel! To to all the nay-Sayers and doubters. You won't find a better follow focus for the money, especially at the group buy rate! It's a great underpriced system that's as compact as any of the major ones out there. People doubt things when they aren't as expensive, and rightfully so, however, this is a nugget, and those are few and far between.

Ive had to work with an RT, Bartec and my Cinegears in same week but not at same time.

I found the Bartec to be noisy but it could be an old model.

The Cinegears is no Ninja but its a lot less than the Bartec.

Yeah Daniel. I realize it's a lot to ask. Who has ever used all these units extensively anyway right?

What I am asking is quantifyable in science. -dB, for sound. Length in feet for distance. Time for setup...

RED also has a wireless option available. Is it out? WMD?

Daniel. How does the CG compare to the preston?

Thoughts on the RT?

How long will shipping take after the buy is concluded? Im considering the same as above. Express Plus with Hard stops - Standard Motor.

Will as I and others have stated...this is by far the best bang for the buck. It's reliable, performs incredibly well, and I LOVE it. I wouldn't steer you guys wrong in a group buy. I don't get behind products I don't like. :-)

Steve is hoping that all units ship before Christmas.

Hi Chris.

Can you list me to receive the unit from UK. That would solve any problem with customs I might have.

Before Christmas!! - Great news.

Thanks for doing this btw.

Chris,
If this can be done via UK then i am happy to go down for version with hard stops.

Andrew.

I can´t see a lot of save in the deal.
You have to buy all the ACC apart; other disc, gears, different mounting bracket, motor gear relocator, extended motor mounting.
So finally the price will be the same.
I will take the deal if it has more ACC.

A lot of those extra accessories were taken out since most wouldn't be used by the typical reduser. The accessories are also discounted if you wanted to add more accessories to your order. As the kit comes, it's a complete system.

For any non-RED camera users, I did hear back from the guys at CineGears and they can provide REC trigger for Sony F5/F55 no problem but it will just be an extra 2 weeks they advised.

My follow up question to them however was if its the same REC remote for all cameras and only the connector or cable is different, etc.. because it would be good to have it work with various cameras as an option. At least in my case it would. :)

Given the price point and a general thumbs up on this package, I'm surprise this group buy hasn't maxed out yet.

And Chris, not sure if it makes a difference now or not but put my interest in for the HT motor, not the standard one. Thanks bud.
