So we don't need to discuss about tilt head or not.
The tilt head is already in the package, those who want the tilt head would be happy, those who doesn't need it can remove it !

cheers

Sounds good to me!

I noticed few posts before that the actual design is already modular (you can have or remove the tilt head !), look at the right of the picture on the product page :

This is what's confused me. I can't tell without really seeing the unit, but it doesn't look like there's a separate fixed head. It appears from the pictures like there's strictly some kind of modularity involved and that to get a "fixed" head, you're simply removing some outer hardware and (I assume) fixing some screws in a different place. If that's correct, you're not really gaining the advantage of moving the camera closer to the gimbal that Alex talked about. The height of camera from gimbal will remain unchanged.

Can Kwan or Michael comment on this?

ETA: Alex's suggestion about changing camera angle by simply adjusting camera fore or aft on the baseplate makes me much less concerned with a tilt head, so if LAING can use a fixed head similar to the one on this page and get the camera closer to the gimbal, I'm all for that.

Hello Elizabeth,

By removing the tilt head, it looks you gain some inches... not much but enough to have a design similar to others steadycams...

There seems to be a problem with the otherwise amazing comunication with Laing. Vitaliy Kiselev from http://www.personal-view.com/ (famous for his GH2 hack) is also offering Laing systems like Brandon mentioned:

I came across this today. Lots of good info, demos and pictures. The post markings seem nice to have.

http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5749/laing-steadicams-arms-and-vests/p1

I haven't realized that Vitaliy is selling them (thought that he had organized also some kind of group buy), so I posted in the linked thread about our plans for a group purchase . Vitaliy imidiatly deleted the post and sent me a quite unfriendly message. Over the course of the following messages, he told me that all communication to LAING and CAME is supposed to go over him and that I am supposed to delete any price information and password protect all the other information.

Tracy from LAING, with whom I was in contact before, wrote me a message that she wont be available for communication anymore, since she has been assigned to an other very important job, and that I should communicate with Vitaliy.

I'm not really sure what's going on here, but please be patient, if there are some push backs.

Now for the goods news. Other manufacturers are preparing offers, one of them being PROline, who produces the amazing T2000 rig. More news to come :-)

PS: Anyone interested in testing rigs in Paris and LA this weekend?

EDIT: Ok Vitaliy is not allowing me to post any of the communication between us, while quite openly forwarding my mails. He also refuses to communicate via email, only via his message board. As long as Laing is not getting back in the communication, I think that the Laing project failed. It's a pity, since it seemed quite promising, and my hope is still there for it to happen, but not like this.

I'm pretty sure that Vitaliy will try to communicate with you directly. Please don't fall for it. It would be a pity if this group deals falls apart, especially since other manufacturers are responding to this new market.

WTF ?
Is this guy part of the mafia or something ?
All the point of this group buy was to talk directly to the manufacturer...
I doesn't understand quite well either...
David, I will wait for some news...thanks.

I would be in Paris, not this week end but monday and tuesday...I can definitvly pass by L'Aigle offic to do some tests and pictures !

Cheers

Let's see how this works out, but I wrote Laing that this group buy is probably not going to happen, if we can't communicate directly with them.

Could I forward your contact to L'Aigle?

Cheers
David

PS: Vitaly quoted already my post here in this forum in his last message, so he's aware of the discussion.

Well, if Vitaliy has an exclusive distribution agreement with Laing, then it'll be the end of it.

A shame, as custom options looked to be useful.

Doesn't seem to have an exclusive deal. Unfortunately, Vitaliy refuses to reveal his role/interest in this. I'm sorry that I can't post the messages he sent me, since he's not allowing to forward them.

Humm.. Strange,
Vitaliy Kiselev is DVXuser and good fella', Why is that important for him to intersect this groupbuy?

The L'aigle offer just arrived. It's a new system which will be introduced in the next weeks. Shipment within five weeks is possible. I'll post more updates on my blog and here later.

Interesting design from a visual point of view - very 'curved' :)

Of course, this is pure aesthetics but it's got that Syd Mead or car industrial design flavour.

I like the look of the L'aigle. It seems that power distribution through the center column is the key. We need to be able to power Epic and FIZ from V-mount battery on the bottom of the sled. Again thanks to you all for doing this. If there is anyone in the S.F. Bay Area who would be willing to give me a steadicam class, please contact me.

The L'aigle seems to have a premium "look" that I quite like. Doesn't look/seem cheap. However my assumption is the prices are going to be a bit on the high side. http://www.laigleparis.fr/english-prices.htm

From doing a little investigating on their website, it looks like the L'Aigle INTEGRAL is the model we're lookin' at

Here's an English translation of the webpage.

And the original webpage:

I don't know about you guys, I think I like this model better than the Laing/Came

David, thank you SO much for your hard work in co-ordinating this group buy!

L'aigle offers is not as cheap as we would like but it will offer to us a system with a "Name" so we can sell it for more than half of the price in 4 years...
I totally agree with the guy from L'Aigle :

"We offer not to pre-wire the sled, but to let any cable (HDMI, HD-SDI, power supply, etc.) run easily inside the post, from topstage to base module, and be plugged directly from the camera to the monitor or power supply. This is the best option, modular, cost-effective and ultra safe on the field (if a cable dies, don't cancel the shooting and send the post back for repair, just replace it in 2 seconds)."

What you think ?

Put me down on the interested list. That rig could be mediocre, but the rubber bands instead of springs seems fairly next gen. Especially when a company backs it with a 10 year warranty. Anyone have experience with that rig?
