I think 1495$ is absolutely fair if they integrate Lemo, HDMI and HD-SDI conntections, deliver a metal box and a stand and send out a test unit to a steadicam op of our choice. As I wrote, this price is for 10+ units. If really most of the people interested are going to purchase a unit, we can negotiate a better price.

Im interested have you talked about a deadline yet.

Since most people want to see a test and review first and the manufacturer might need some time to change the design to accommodate the power and video connectors, a group purchase wont happen in the next three weeks. A probable deadline could be the March 15th.

Or maybe get in touch with another manufacturer and see what price they will do - and also compare their product (if they'll provide a loaner to test). The Wondlan stabilizer has a powered sled and supports the same weight range - are there any others?

There's more chance of a deep discount if it's not a one horse race. I suppose the big question is would these manufactures want to expose their products to a potentially good or bad review - and would they want a really experienced steadicam operator's views.

It'll be interesting to see how this develops :)

+1 Please let me know when you know too! :)

Why not just hire an actual Steadicam operator? You'll get a lot better results if you get an op that knows what they're doing, has good gear, and knows what looks good and what works.

I am very interested and will buy 1 for sure. It depends on the review as all of us waiting for and of course the price, that we can afford it.

I think the same eBay seller (photolight) sells both rigs, Came & Wondlan.

I'm seriously interested, pending review.
I'm in Canada.

Interested, Bay Area.

A groupbuy with around 60 people? Just one thought about it: Why not ask the real manufacturer of Stabilizers (Those who develop, not just copy) about a good deal? 60 people should get quite a decent discount. Actionproducts showed a great entry level stabilizer at NAB 2011 (Search google for actioncam Raptor). I guess they would produce it if a group of 50 or 60 would ask for it. Or Steadicam Scout or Zephyr with a discount? Glidecam X-22? I could even imagine it would be possible to put a good stabilizer together, vest, arm, sled from different manufacturer...advice from a experienced owner/operator would be good.
BTW, I´m also interested in a review.
David and Kwan,
Thank you for starting those threads about stabilizers.

I think this is a different goal...
Here we will have a steadycam for under 1400$... that will be the stead that you leave in your trunk to put it out occasionally on low budget and unexpected shots...
I put my name on the list because I often need this for low cost commercials, clips or shorts films.
But I know that I will continue to hire experimented steadycam operator with his own gear for big budget and difficult shots...
So I don't need a discount on a Steadicam to pay 7000/8000 $ over 9000$ I need something awfully cheap but still decent for easy walk around shots.
I know it would not allow me to be a good steadycamer but it is not my goal, there is trained professionals for that.
I know it will hurt my back a little more than a 10K$ one but I will use it so few, so it's not a big deal.

Thanks David to organise this group buy.
