  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy: Budget CRI 95 LED Strip Lights

Hi,

I've had these strips for a while now and built a few different types of enclosures. Just wanted to share them with you.

This one always goes in my standard kit bag, people have stepped on it and it's fine. I'm using velcro for attaching gels and it gives out about 5000 lumens or half a roll. I have a lipo that can be velcro'd to the back as well.

here you see the little light on the tiniest tripod I could find, since it weighs nothing.

Here is a custom made light, first version. Basically a tube that holds the Led strip and provides diffusion and protection. I have a couple of velcro tighteners around the edges for simple rigging.

Here is the same light 50 cm cut attached to a tripod. It would be really easy to mount a whole array of these to form more of a surface light or a kino style one. The nice thing, it's light, bendable, diffusses so you don't get multi shadows, and I can gel it from the inside.

Do you have a link for that tube?

Stephen

Here is a tutorial for a DIY flex light. I'm sure our strips are better quality. Might be some useful info in here:

Thanks for sharing all this stuff, guys. Very cool.

The manufacturer is working on the final tweaks for the controller. The wireless is fully tested now and works great. Everything is ready except for a few minor things. I will have an update in a few days.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to get more orders out or deal with emails for a few days. I'm having another, pretty intense, MS attack right now and I'm checking into the hospital in about 6 hours for a steroid infusion. They are keeping me a few days. I will have my iPad and phone, but won't be able to pull up orders. My legs have been locking up/going totally numb and there's a bunch of nerve pain. Walking is getting tricky. The doctor told me today that aggressive MS is 1 attack a year and I've had at least 4 attacks in 9 months. I'm on a waiting list for a new treatment that has a 90%+ chance of totally fixing everything and stopping the disease. It involves chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant. Even my doctor, who is generally does not approve of "experimental" treatments, says it's probably the only way I will not end up in a wheelchair and with permanent vision problems. I'm optimistic things will fine. I just need to keep myself glued together until I can get the chemo/stem cell treatment. The good news is the steroids should put the fire out for now and I'll be back to work in a couple days feeling like I'm invincible. None of this is slowing down the controllers. The wheels are turning.

Best Wishes to you Brandon. I'm happy to hear you are optimistic things will be fine.

Optimism is the secret to life.

Hi Brandon,

I just saw a documentary on that very treatment. It sounds like a heck of a ride with the chemo part, but the results were astonishing. My fingers are crossed that you will experience total success with the treatment.

Best wishes,

Mike.

Brandon - I am sure I can speak for all REDusers to let you know we are with you and sending all the vides we can for good results with all of your treatments. I think it is remarkable that you have been such a trooper with this group buy when it clearly is nothing near as important as what you are going through. You have my deepest and sincerest gratitude. Be sure to take care of your health above all else.

For those who have received their strips, would someone mind telling me what model diodes the strip is using? It's a 4-digit number on the strip itself.

Not wanting to bother Brandon but maybe one of you know.... simple question. I bought 4 controllers and 4 variable rolls. How many total rolls can a single controller manage? I'm considering getting some more rolls (if possible) if I can get them without buying more controllers. Thanks in advance.

I believe it's up to 4 strips per controller max... but, you can search the thread to be positive

Just finished a job using the variable strips in china balls, Brolly Boxes and both gridded and direct octabanks. Wow. Lightest, brightest, simplest, most colour correct source I've ever used. When we threw a Cineo phosphor unit in the mix, you could actually see the green-yellow from it in the skin tone, in comparison to the Group Buy strips.

Brandon, thank you for all the hard work, the patience to see this through despite your health, and for dealing with the hundreds if not thousands of queries over the last year.

The strips, powered not even with your controller but direct from V-mounts, outperformed some incredibly expensive lighting, and added tremendous production value to a complex job, with tough creative direction and even worse environmental issues(like, minus 30 and the 800amp genny on the package won't start....).

I am sooooooo excited to get the controllers and start building more rigs. The crew, gaffer and DP thank you!

Wow. Can't wait to get my hands on these!

Stephen

So having tried to absorb all 230 pages of that, I'm intrigued, can I buy some light strips? I can run them without a controller right? just a 12v dc source? Can I get on the waiting list or find someone's spot in line?

Brandon your mailbox is full, so I am just letting you know here that I'm interested in some strips. Thanks for taking on an epic project.

FINAL CONTROLLER SPECS

It's been a long time coming...

gIaGvkp.jpg

• Input: 12-24V DC
• Rating: 40A Max (10A x 4 channels). That's 4 rolls, or 65 ft/20m, of light!
• Low-Mode (2 stop output reduction) for fine tuning of brightness levels.
• Flicker-free to 200+ FPS! Our original spec was 120FPS. I've tested up to 240FPS.
• BUILT IN WIRELESS: WiFi (iOS/Android) and RF control will greatly expand the capabilities of our controller. You will be able to link together and control multiple controllers and create a virtual light board, program light effects, and much more!
• NEW FEATURE: Single/Variable/RGB/RGBW support! Basically, this controller is compatible with any type of strip you throw at it! RGB and RGBW support was never part of our original spec, but it's there now! I also have CRI95+ RGBW (Red, Green, Blue, White) strips in the works, if you want some let me know.
• NEW FEATURE: Single Channel Control! This means you can adjust the brightness levels for up to 4 light sources with only 1 controller (via WiFi/RF). This is something most of us will use every day and it was not part of our original spec!
• FULLY OPEN: Unlike other controllers/dimmers which limit you to using only their own strips, our controller has no such limitations. Use it with whatever you want.

Group Buy Price: $127.92

There is no controller on the market that does everything our Group Buy controller does. You would have to spend thousands to cobble together all the products you would need to match our functionality.

THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE TO GET IN ON THIS DEAL AT THIS PRICE.

THE MANUFACTURER IS HONORING THIS PRICE FOR ONLY THIS FIRST BATCH OF CONTROLLERS EVEN THOUGH THE COMPONENT PRICE HAS INCREASED DRAMATICALLY FOR THEM. THIS PRICE WILL GO UP, EVEN FOR BULK ORDERS, AFTER THIS FIRST BATCH.

Oh, and if you want more lights, let me know THIS WEEK!

SHIPPING: Controllers will start shipping the last half of April. I expect it will be mid-May before all the orders are sent, since I have to do it manually. I'll get them out as fast as I can! :)

I wish I had a better "finished" controller to show, but the paint job isn't done yet and I wanted to get this post done today.

Thank you, Patrick! Is it ok if I post the pictures you sent me from set? I love this story. So, cool... :)

Yes, you can, if you do it this week. You can run the single color strips without a controller, but you definitely will want a controller. See above :) I sent you a PM. I'm about to clear out some more messages because I expect that I'll be getting a lot of PMs today.

Hey Patrick. Would you post some pixs of your rigs - esp china balls & octabanks. THANKS.

You're going to love what I'm working on, Kirby. If you are in the Facebook group, take a look at what I posted yesterday.
