  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy: Budget CRI 95 LED Strip Lights

Are power supplies part of the package I bought? If not, do you have a link to a preferred supply?

Thanks.

Stephen

You have 4 power supplies coming, Stephen. You are all set. They will be fully tested with the controllers before they ship.

Just to be clear what is shipping now - the guys I read getting their stuff sent now are not waiting for the controller? Correct?

I`m happy to get mine all in one go.

thanks

Exactly. The people getting their lights now are only get lights and kits. That is all shipping on request. The controllers and power supplies are not shipping yet, but will soon. Waiting on 1 last tweak before I sign off on the controllers.

Hi Brandon, I put in my request a few weeks ago for just lights (controller can wait), can I get an update please?

thanks, Erich

I suspect Brandon is going to think thrice before ever doing a group buy again.

I can only begin to imagine the headaches involved.

Thanks, Brandon!

Yeah, it's become quite a burden. If it's not automated next time, I'm not doing it. That said... I will soon have everything in a database/web app that will make managing this so much easier. Right now I have people being invoiced at one email, paying with another email, and then, sometimes, emailing me asking questions from a third or fourth email address. And don't get me started about order changes, splitting up orders, people paying one invoice with one paypal account and another invoice with another paypal account, etc, etc. Right now it's slow. By this time next week, with the database, it will be much faster. None of this is new, just venting a little :)

About the footage, my test shoot keeps getting bumped. I only have a Scarlet Dragon and there are only a handful of Epic Dragons in town where I'm at. Since I'm not paying for the rental, I have to be flexible. Yesterday's shoot got bumped to today and then got bumped again right before I was heading out the door. I have doctor stuff all day tomorrow (trying to get in a trial) and a million emails/PMs/orders to get through, so hopefully Friday I can do it. Believe me, I want to show you guys video as soon as possible. Worst case, I will upload "simulated" HFR footage this weekend by maxing out the frame rate and changing the shutter to what it would be at higher frame rates. The final unit will absolutely be tested with an Epic. ...or maybe Jarred needs someone to beta test a Raven? ;)

Regarding the final controller sample, I got an update today. The upgraded chip is all good I'm told. They are making a small change to the PCB, which is almost done, and then they try to break it. If they fail, then it's on the way to me for approval.

I'll get back to the rest of you guys tomorrow one-on-one!

I'll take a couple of power supplies when my controllers ship. Also need a set of the green male & female sockets that the bare wires screw into. Lost one of them. How do the leds connect to the controller?
Thanks

Screw on terminals on the right side of the device. You can add quick connects that stay screwed in, if you want.

Hi Brandon,

Please, can you answer to my PM/mail ?

Thanks

Would appreciate a reply to my post and pm as well.

Both of your orders are submitted and will go out Monday.

I know it's getting old, but I was dealing with doctor stuff all day again. Officially diagnosed with MS this morning. I'll be back to catching up on emails and PMs tomorrow. The new PCB for the controller is out of the oven on Tuesday. Then stress testing begins. If all goes well, it will be shipped to me next week. My friend, who is letting me borrow and Epic for HFR testing, is in Barcelona, so this weekend I'll shoot tests with my Scarlet at 5K/60FPS with faster shutter to simulate 120/200+ FPS. I'll test the final unit with the Epic. Oh, and everything will be in a database next week, which will be a huge burden lifted. That's the next step in getting all this running very efficiently. That's the latest...

If you could throw another camera like a 5d/7d/A7s into that test that would be very helpful too. I've found the sensitivity to flicker to vary greatly among digital motion cameras, I'm assuming based on the read reset rate of their CMOS sensors.

I'll test the final unit with a 5D/7D, BMCC, and whatever else I can borrow. No problem.

So very sorry for the official diagnosis, Brandon. Health first. Lights second.

Stephen

Brandon, thanks for all the work you've put behind these lights. You're a real trooper. Really sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Please take care of yourself.

Thanks again for the support, everyone. It's been kind of a crazy time.

I just finished shooting the preliminary tests. I use a variable strip for these tests.

As a reminder, here's an extreme example of what "flicker" looks like with LED strip lights:

CEdNJCe.jpg

The horizontal lines are what you are looking for in the video.

The flicker tests show 24fps, 60fps, 120fps, 250fps, and 500fps. My Scarlet maxes out at 60fps and 16:1 compression, so 120-500fps are simulated by adjusting the shutter, but still recording at 60fps. I used the Skin Tone - Highlight OLPF for these tests and the iris was wide open the entire time. I did not change it for the high frame rate shots.

Enjoy...

It's nearly 6am here. If you have any questions about the video, I'll answer them when I wake up. I'm going to plow though more emails, private messages, and orders all day Monday.

Oh, and the printing on the controller is temporary! The final printing will be white and look much better.

Great stuff Brandon cant wait :)
