  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy: Budget CRI 95 LED Strip Lights

I'm off to the airport soon. Heading back across the Atlantic. I have the last of the early deliveries with me to drop at the post office on the way. I'll do my best to get caught up on emails and upgrades this weekend.

Brandon, I am waiting patiently for the full system with new controller. I am not in a hurry but I wanted to say how impressed I am with your work on this GB.

If you ever get out to California, look me up. I will take you on a tour and tasting of the Napa Valley Wine Country. My Wife is a gourmet chef and I have a small winery on the property. You will be well treated and guest accommodations are on me. We have access to a couple of places I have built for my StepDad that are very quiet and the newest place is called the Writer's Retreat on the creek. A small little apartment with a deck that is out over the creek. Very cozy and yours for a weekend on my dime.

Best,

Alan

Very nice of you, Alan. Thank you!

I hope people remember to post pictures of what they do with the leds :D

I'm sure there will be a lot of examples :)

These are indeed exciting times :D

AJ

Agreed!

Agreed!
So are you also bringing some goodies for your european friends with you ? ;-)

So my daylight lights just arrived. Wow. I'm impressed. I thought I'd thank Brandon by posting some (bad) photos.

Here is my small 10 x 14 theater with the no lights on:

And here is what ONE daylight strip thrown on the floor looks like:

Please forgive the mess and all those remotes ;)

One thing that surprised me was the heat. I hooked up the battery while the lights were still on the spool. They were on for less than a minute and they got pretty warm. Warm enough to warp the thin and flimsy spool. Not a dig against the spool, just giving you an idea of the heat.

Thanks for posting pics, Herbert!

These plastic spools don't handle heat well, but the lights don't have heat issues. The prototype rolls were on spools made out of harder plastic. I complained about it already, but it's not really the end of the world. The strips are top quality and that's what is important.

Im In for another group buy.

Added you to the list, Kyle!

Brandon,

Agreed about the spools, but they're not in any way an issue. I regret saying anything because it reads like I'm grousing. I'm not. I'm extremely happy.

I don't think heat will be an issue either.

It's no problem. I'm glad you brought it up. It's to be expected that when you have 16+ feet of very bright LEDs sandwiched tight around a lightweight plastic spool, things will get a little warm when they are powered up. The strips can handle it fine, but the plastic spools may not :)

Yo B, what about us with the variable strips that need the new controller? When are we paying for the controller upgrade ??

You'll get it today.

Same question.

You will as well.

FWIW - I got an email with a bill (and paid it) a couple weeks back.

Yeah, you were one of the first to reply. I'm going through the emails in order. It takes a lot of time to go through and upgrade everyone. Over 300 invoices and it's all manual. I'll get it done soon.

My tungsten and daylight strips came in yesterday, and I had a little time to play with them today. I wrapped a canister with 3m of tungsten, which seems to be safe for a 70w dtap, and made a rough test of a jem ball with a boom pole and medium pancake. It's probably a bit big and a touch heavy using the chimera, but the softness is nice. At 4' diagonally down I was reading 2.8/4 split at ISO 800. All shots taken at f4 iso 800.
