  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy: Budget CRI 95 LED Strip Lights

Terminal connects is fine Ty.

Terminals is fine.

@corey: your solution means, that we had to open the case for every small adjustment. (And App Control is not always possible)
I have some gear with terminal connections, but none of them are so open as here. A very good solutions are the demi open cases: You only have to slide away the bottom, and you have access do the terminal connections. Fixing things on set also takes a lot of time, so I prefer to do things like this as seldom as possible and not on set.

Sure, that works too. What ever works best for you. I think the big thing is, is that we want to keep the controllers/dimmers as affordable as possible. Opening a micro case is faster than opening your app on your phone. But if the terminals are gone, it makes the controller that much harder to customize on your own. And it also makes it much more expensive. I'm sure people will find ways that work best for them, and I'm sure there will be plenty of photos once these things get in their hands.

Terminals are fine and dandy. Only a $9 increase, that's awesome! Great work and thank you again.

It just would need a small design change, no extra/new parts.

How often to you customize such things on set?? For me, the daily work is more important, I want to work efficient, fast, and safe. And it also should look that way.
I don’t talk about getting rid of the terminals. I am talking about a small design change to integrate the terminals better, or get the possibility to cover them easier. At the moment, it seems you need a complete additional housing.

This is a 20lbs sand bag hanging off just 1 terminal. I really don't think you'll have problems often, if ever.

And the looks aren't so bad. Just throw some shrinkwrap on it and it's all good.

I have been using the Enttec Ip based DMX controller for stage lighting for shows:

I set up a WiFi network and use app: Luminaire on my iPad to control entire shows. Handles all event base presets and all so might make a nice DMX control system for lighting setups. I am going to look into it when I get my light strips.

LiteGear has the DMX controller. I paid 120$ for mine, and I bought a Pocket DMX Console. If flicker isn't an issue then there's actually a lot of companies that make them.

Can you post an example of what you mean? What I'm picturing in my head would slow you down on set. The way it's setup now would be faster. Also, if a new mold has to be poured for the case that going to bring the cost up thousands and delay things quite a bit more. The design with the terminals is totally standard for this type of controller. Even the very expensive film/video specific stuff uses them.

This won't have any DMX functionality. There are a lot of existing solutions out there that.

Will emails be sent out tonight?

Thank you for your hard work Brandon!

Tomorrow.

Just worked out all the details for the certifications (FCC, CE, RoHS, etc.). A lot goes into all this, but it's all sorted now.

I'll be on the road much of the day tomorrow, but once I get back online I'll get all the details to everyone.

This controller is seriously going to rock :)

So I got those little LED clip adapter things in the mail the other day(Once again, these are Single Colour LiteGear LEDs, and the ones in this group buy may be slightly different. The LEDs are dimmed as low as I could go to be able to take a better picture)

Incase these are something you guys may want, I decided to show a post on them. They're cheap.

This is the solderless barrel to LED clip. Basically you cut the LED to the length and then you just clip these clips on the end. Make sure polarity is correct. There's little markings on the clip, as well as the LEDs. The one downside to the clips I got, was that they are made more for the low-density LEDs. Which means, the first LED in the segment is too close to the edge, and the clip ends up covering it. The clip also has a spiked cover, to hold the LED in place better. So with these clips, the spikes are right on the emitter. So I ended up just taking pliers and pushing the spikes back into itself so it doesn't damage the emitter. It still works fine, and for 60 cents a piece, it's a pretty good buy. They are also very quick to set up.

This is the solderless LED to Wire to LED clip. Once again, you cut your LED to the length you need, and then without going into detail, you can connect 2 strips together. These would be great for those making fixtures. Because the strips are in fact flexible, I'm sure if you bend them 180, over time you could ruin a section. Or if you want it to be as flat as possible. Similar problem with the Barrel to LED clip. They seem to be made for lower density strips, so you have that same spike problem. But these are about 50 cents each.

Both work fine, and get the job done.

I got a few pictures today...

Here's a first look at our strips:

Power kits are on the way:

As I said yesterday, I'm out of town. I just got back online, but it's a really slow mobile connection. I'll be back on normal internet tomorrow and I'll get the controller details out as soon as I am. I have already transferred the deposit and the company has started work on it.

A lot of care is being put into making sure the strips are top quality. Remember, you will get test reports with your packages detailing the specs for each type of light in your order. Every batch is tested and it's done transparently. No cherry picking is going on. What you see in the report is what we will have in our hands.

It's all coming together even better than I had hoped. Very excited!

Beautiful Brandon.

The Latest:

I'm going through and contacting everyone, one-by-one, about the controller upgrades. Unfortunately, there's no way to automate it, so it will take a couple days. Everyone should be contacted by Monday.

The manufacturer received the deposit today for the controllers. They are hard at work.

I just got an email from the light manufacturer. The person there that does the test reports for the lights was out today. He will be back Monday. The lights will be mailed out after the tests are finished and I sign off on the results. You will get a copy of these reports with your lights.

The kits are all airborne and en route.
