First of all, it was a great day today as I got my weapon woven delivered.
Have not had much time with it more then putting a lens on and shot some quick tests shots around the office. And the difference is very much there. I find it odd that it has not been discussed more. To me the improvement of picture quality is possibly just as much as a leap from MX to dragon as it is from dragon to weapon. Noise pattern is the big one. Far cleaner picture no doubt. I mean I had the 1.8 SSD´s so the speed of the minimags and what ever else was done makes a huge difference.
I did not get the screens I ordered in the delivery so only had an old EVF to play with. So I was trying to configure this thing and looked at the top handle and to me it´s a bit limiting that it´s only possible to mount so it sticks out in the back. It ruins it for big Vlocks etc. So I figure why not flip it around facing forward... (nothing that would work with the new screens mounted direct on the body but for other setups with big lenses and such it would put everything in better balance.
So I took my new little red tool and dissembled the handle and removed the two little pegs around the connector with a set of pliers.... flipped the connector around and viola. it works just as one could expect. Then I took the risk and tested it the other way around so the connects are actually mirrored / connecting the wrong way... well that works just as good.
So now possibly somebody from red can reply to this. But is there any short fusing risk of doing this? Or what are those little studs for, is it just for protecting the connector or is it bad for the camera to have the handle the other way around?
Then I was thinking it would be great to have some sort of top plate sitting on the handle. but there is not many screw holes on it.. but then there is the end rubber nob thing... again took the plyers and that things comes of and it´s a threaded end on the handle. So if some 3rd part accessory maker want to make an extra buck my advice would be to make some some sort of accessory plate that is fixated to the handle by these nob threads. preferably something that has 19mm rood mounts that sits on standard distance from lens center. then focus motors and such could hang from above and we could fit microphones and other stuff up there also, no?
Or we just continue to use that space inside the handle as the Camera Dep. weed stash
EDIT: Thanks for the input guys now I sent this model of to our CNC guy.
Short enough to clear battery.
Not a rubber grip but good enough lump to hold on to. that can have wide or slim is facing down / can be mounted 360 deg rotation.
Has red´s 4 holes distance between the 1/4 inch holes so monitor and such screws on fine.
Has a bunch of 3/8 threaded holes.
Has 2 mount points for RED rosettes.
Has 3 Arri standard mount points.
Flying out to LA for a shoot now but hopefully this little bit of metal is laying in my reception when I get back home in a week or so.
