  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GOPRO Hero3 - 4K

Totally agree with you, Steve. I think it is great option for many subjects and projects. I will certainly be getting at least one or two of those cameras.

Interestingly, many people do not realise that when shooting macro the image sharpness depends on magnification ratio more than pixel count. The lower the magnification, the better. Magnification ratio depends on the size of the sensor, again, the smaller the better.

It's not immediately obvious and requires some heavy duty physics/maths to prove, but for some, high magnification ratio shots, often a 1k sensor will outperform a 5k sensor in terms of resolution! .... far from obvious or even expected!

So, having a small sensor camera in the arsenal of tools is actually very important....the bigger is not always better :)

Do you make any snap-on domes for the GoPro family Pawel? Would be great to have.

Cheers.

Picked up two Hero2 Blacks at Best Buy today and cancelled my pre-order... I'll try and do some side by side tests with the Hero2 when it stops raining and I have some nice days. So far though, I played with it a bit in post-sunset light, and the image is incredibly clean at 2.7K 24fps. WOW

You were able to purchase Hero3's at BestBuy or did you get a Hero2? Confused since the Hero2 doesn't do 2.7K and BestBuy does not stock the Hero3 in my area yet

I've seen reports on the web, and people posting pictures to prove it, that they've been able to buy them at local Best Buy and Target stores. Neither BB or Target in my area had them as of yesterday. However, the stories are definitely true and apparently ordering the new Hero3 Black cameras online was a mistake... My wife left Target a few minutes ago and called me to say they were setting up the new GoPro end display and they had them. So, dilemma, do I run over there and buy a couple? Or do I wait for my order to arrive. Grrr.... To me it seems a no-brainer, but GoPro estimated that my order would ship today, so... Maybe I'll just go get one, it's not like you can ever have too many of them. LOL...

Thanks for the tip Jeff - heading out foraging for H3's now!

Well, you guys are damn lucky. Over here the distributor says end of NOvember the earliest. I need 2 for a main racing event over hereto comPlement my Epic footage. Will probably have to go through ebay because no online reseller sells me these directly due to Gopro distribution policies. I hope I wont get burned. Would really love to have these for November 15th!

Great idea. Will create a thread soon on the " buy sell" corner. Thanks for the suggestion!

I just picked up two at my local Best Buy. They are not on shelves or listed online. They pulled them from back storeroom. Call them!

My local best buy had them on a small end-cap display. When I went in at around 5pm yesterday they had about 5 left. I snagged two like you did. I think we'll have some good footage to show from paramotoring next month, Mike!

Haven't made it to Best Buy today, I don't know that I will make it until tomorrow. Target did not have the Black edition ones we all want... There's a dozen more Target stores and Best Buys and all that around here, but I'm not too interested in driving all over the place to find something that UPS will be bringing me in a few days anyway.

Well, tried ti open 2.7K footage in Adobe Premiere and it keeps crashing the sh*t out of premiere. So far I haven't found a workaround. Gahhh

No issues here, although I only tried one 2.7K test clip. I'm running 6.0.2 on a mid 2011 AIR. The footage should look sweet on a Retina display.

Damn it Mike! Yeah, I'm running 6.0.2 on a retina MBP with OS 10.7.5

Hmmmmmm.

What are you using for sequence settings? Or are you just dragging the file in and letting Premiere handle setting them?

What is very cool about this camera is the potential of 4K for the masses. Now let's get those 4K televisions down in price.

Except it's still 4K at 12/15fps. Not really usable for normal 4K shooting. But yeah... we're getting there.
