  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Goose bumps...

To think 5 years ago we were all getting excited over some girls drinking milk .... And now it's lead to some of the best movies of the year ... Shame RED can't help the script writers like it has CInematographers

Is it sad that I totally agree with this? I enjoy a number of these films, but some of them are gorgeous in the visual while lacking in other areas. I was hoping Short Term 12 would've been in the reel as well, because it was an excellent film, with a great story, that used the RED cams naturally...and it looked great, showing the EPIC can thrive in the "smaller" story centric films as well as the giant spectacle blockbusters...was nice to see some clips from Che though...

For having no part in helping RED get to where it is today other than saving up for years and buying a Scarlet immediately when they became available, I am proud to be part of the RED community and think the ENTIRE team at RED deserve our thanks for all they have worked so hard to offer...you have my gratitude...

That was an awesome reel.

Impressive, Most Impressive.

Happy to have contributed to the SHOT on RED family of films including providing cameras on Bradford Youngs film: Mother of George which won the Award for Best Cinematography at Sundance this year.

Thanks for being the best scam I ever invested in.

Wonder what the total box-office for the films in that reel is.
I'm sure you could make a spectacular reel with indie films shot on Red as well.

Congratulations Jim. Looks like you did it.

Now the team you assembled can keep on pushing the envelope.

Amazing. The cutter did your babies proud Jim!
Just back from NAB this year to check out the booth and the rest of the madness. Your team was very top notch!!! I felt that every effort was made to engage in a meaningful way -
and to share the newest innovations and results of your tireless hours and significant investments towards the dream of RED.
Immediately after the awesomeness at the RED booth, I went to look at the monstrosity of a booth at Blackmagic. (Not only in size - but esthetically) It was about 5 minutes to closing of the exhibition and the representative from BM was quite clearly not willing to answer any of my questions and let me know that very clearly in the English language and body language.
To be honest - That little cinema camera looks a very useful tool to have in the arsenal... but after a cold experience like that I don't know if I would buy one.
I would buy a similar tool from RED immediately - if you made it. Just saying.
When my wife and I met you a couple of years ago at the booth, you made a couple minutes and a quick pic for us. I was quite stoked.
The feeling that day was quite the reverse of my experience with a couple of exhibitors this year... On some levels I think I know how you must have felt at times going up against all those giants, and doing something that couldn't or shouldn't be done. There is just so much to say about doing something you care about and it feels pretty crappy when you are treated with little or no interest or even indifference.
However in the end - what is success, what is glory, what of all of it even matters? How do we arrive at that which inspires us? Feeds our souls? Makes our days worth it in the end?
A simple measurement is how we conduct ourselves and why we do what we do. We are only here for a blink, then what have we left behind? I am by no means perfect - but I try to just know "good". What you guys are doing feels "good". This trailer makes me feel "good". Keep doing "good". Whatever that feels like to you. It makes a difference, and you have made a difference.

Jim, Thanks again from all the small guys. And again, to mister or missus editor... Bravo!

Just watched it and it's amazing to see all these projects shot on Red then I realize that I'm a 33 year old freelance based in a small area of France and I use everyday the same cameras which were used on all these blockbusters and other Hollywood movies...
When I decided to do things the way I wanted and to create my own business shooting Film was almost impossible, too expensive and due to our geographic situation, it was too complicated our too long to get our rolls processed.
While on a trip in Hawaii I saw Steve Gibby shooting on the beach with a Red One and a 150-600 Canon, I realized this camera will help get the footage I wanted, the look I like, etc... I saved money, bought my own Red One then my Epic and recently a Scarlet.
I was lucky enough to work in some amazing locations with great people but more than that, on every shoot, I get the footage I want, the look I like, slow-motion in 5K... Back home, I edit all that in Raw in my apartment on an iMac or a Mac Pro with a Rocket, I tweak footage, grade it, crop into it, tweak it again, sometimes I apply new grades on some 3 year old footage...
I'm tripping here and my post doesn't have that much sense... I shot this morning on my local beach break, boys killed it, waves were pumping and light was crazy and I captured all that in 5K... Life is good! I will watch that reel again before going to bed!

Yeah that is a very impressive reel indeed. :) And very well put together. I don't think people realise how hard it is to edit stuff like that together as a whole. So cudos to the editor. :)

It is a little funny though that there are a couple fully 3D shots in there with no live action plates at all. I really want a RED camera in my 3D software as well. hehe But yeah it would be great to be able to render out to r3d files actually. :) Or have a plugin in NUKE that could make r3d files.

Great work!! Makes me proud to be an EPIC owner.

Editing is unbelievable. All world. When I die... I want this played at my funeral. :-)

Jim

I wondered about that too... But figure there must have been live action involved?

Very impressive and glossy looking ..

Would have lovedd to have seen a bit from 'rust and bone'! ... It really challenged a few people's notions becuase many asumed Alexa.

That is your comment? Really? Rolls eyes...

I must be in a good mood or I would ban you for being incredibly stupid.

Note... I changed my mind.

Jim
Heh, heh, hope it is a short-term ban... Kermalettin is, well, enthusiastic. '-)

Be careful what you post. I am passionate.

Jim
