  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Good news...

"32mm image circle for 5k imagery."

So all 5 primes will cover 5k?

if so..wow. not sure if the other new lenses could do the same.

All our Pro lenses cover 32mm and 5K when Scarlet and EPIC S35 sensor is released. The industry standard for 35mm and PL mount is a 30mm image circle.

Jim,

Sounds great! I'm looking down the road at Epic...

Will Ultra Primes cover the same image circle? Or put another way, will they cover 5K?

Will RED primes be as easy to service as an Ultra Prime?

Thanks,

Mark

Can't tell you offhand what the image circle before vignetting is with a UP and I have never personally serviced one. But I can service a RED prime if necessary...

Jim

Does that mean you'll be providing lens servicing/repairs post warranty? Or will we need to go to independents for servicing?

And can you tell us what the close focusing distances are for each lens?

Thanks,

M

So......

How do we get on a list for the lenses. My last reservation for the 18-85 was moved because I bought the 18-50 while waiting. I have red #939 and have been waiting for these lenses since I got the camera and before since I sold my superspeeds before I got my red (sold a set of MKII Superspeeds for $17,000 one year too early for the Red Bubble)Any Idea of how and when to get on a waiting list would be appreciated.

We have held your place for the 18-85mm. Your turn just hasn't come up yet. We are finally hitting stride on the 18-85's so things will move faster as we go forward. The Primes have a much faster release schedule. We are trying to learn from our experience. :-)

Having a RED ONE matters in the release of the Primes.

Hey Jim,
Firstly love what you guys are doing the new glass sounds sick!!. I have been shooting motion and still of surfing for a couple decades and the last change like this was Auto focus (not digi) Is it realistic to assume that we will be able to shoot motion and still pull mag quality stills from the top of the range scarlet camera. I am a bit of a dunce as far as specs go but it seems to me with the good sensor and a spec'd up computer we are going to be able to capture the two at once … thus solving a GIANT dilemma in our field that now demands content for web,mag and DVD release … of the same action! I saw some stills pulled from a RED and while they were pretty good (way better than the first few Cannon digi SLR's released) they were not insane and the stills you guys have shown us seem to have come from very controlled lighting set-ups. Are the two formats secretly consummating a marriage in the back room at Red Ranch??? Come on Jim hear our prayers. Amen.

Hi Jim,

Can the primes also be used on a film camera?

Best,

Stephen

i can't wait to get my hands on these prime lenses. but then i can't wait to get my 18-85 zoom #405 either. it's good to hear the production of the primes is ramping up. i had to wait 13 months for my first Red #1152 but it was worth the wait and i'm sure it will be the same with the Red Pro lenses.

Good question. I see no reason why not. They are PL mount lenses with an image circle larger than needed for S35. They have incredible resolution and lack of aberrations and light falloff on a lens projector.

I guess he talks about having room for a rolling shutter.

Sorry... plenty of room for a spinning mechanical shutter on a film camera. My bad.
