  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Good news... ?

I would even be happy if it was a h.264 1080P clip like those Apple Trailers in HD. Some stills would be really nice, even som jpg´s.

Super Nice work Jim! I´m really happy for you guys!

Days? Jim you've obviously got no idea how long days seem with such anticipation :)

Thanks alot for yours and everyone at Red's hardwork.

Out of interest, if we could arrange a showing in our respective countries at somewhere with a 4k display or projector would you be willing to put the full thing up for a select few downloads. I'm guessing the one that will be posted soon will be HD at most to keep file sizes within reason. I'm thinking there'd certainly be enough people in the UK and nearby in Europe that would be prepared to fork out the setup costs between them to see it, we could even do a satallite linkup for you so that you can give the audience the leg breaking speach :)

That's a good idea: to introduce the movie with Jim's NAB speech.

I would also be happy with 1080p movie and some 4k stills.

Preferably a high bitrate like the milkgirls clip, say 50 mbit/sec would be no problem with BitTorrent. I volunteer to seed for the next say 6 months.

Great I couldnt even sleep last night! Now for the 2-3 days ill be a complete zombie, but this is GREAT News! I agree 1080p would be great!

1080p for sure. A nice bump to 2K would be welcome too for those of us with 30" LCDs or other 2K capable displays. But more than the extra bit of res for 2K I'd rather see a good quality file in a high bit-rate.

Definitely want to see stills at 4K...

Jim, if Paul's excellent suggestion isn't feasible, could you at least post some footage of your famed introductory speech for the screening that shook the world?:usd:

Yep,

I'd like to hear that introduction too. And maybe a translation by Jim's pretty girlfriend (say greetings, see you again @ IBC the latest :)).

I'd guess we can organizes a 4K screen if the footage flies in somehow. Downloading a really big file doesn't cause a problem anyway.

Jim, is you office this time inside the tent (given it grew up) or still the paveway around it :) ???
Still interested in what we talked about on IBC for China, Japan and clearly Germany... We are up for it.

Cheers,
Axel

To Harmonic: Seems you really have a binary version of Red#793, pure digital spoken here? I hope it was not meant decimal...

wow :D

totally cool...
will add, that I would love to see a full res 4k screen grab from it in the gallery.

From what I saw the screen grabs up there are pretty decent, but I wonder what one at a higher ISO would look like in the shadows - say at iso 800 (Im sure this is not the right terminology for 'film', what is it ASA?)

I dont pretend to be a 'film' dude, but i appreciate good toys, and one day will have my hands on a good camera. :)

Peace

Always remember that the short was a "test" using alpha cameras that were suffering from certain malfunctions. I'll let Jim go into detail if he so chooses.

So the glory that some of you witnessed [and the rest of you will soon...] isn't wholly indicative of the glory that you'll get with the RED ONE.

James Newton Howard is a great soundtrack composer and glad he will allow his work to be used for RED. Saw the 4K projection and a small web quicktime does not give it quite the justice it deserves. Congratulations Jim on putting on one of the most interesting coming out parties at NAB. Your film proves that RED is a force to be reckoned with and cannot wait to start shooting with this fine system.

what would you do with a 4k movie download?

Can you get a 4K version up using a torrent file?

Certainly 4k stills are useful, but for those asking for a 4k movie file I am wondering: What imaging system do you use for viewing a 4k movie with? Do you have access to a 4k projector? The uncompressed 4k data for a 12 minute short is around 500 GB so that isn't likely to go over the web right now. It would have to be compressed, eg. MPEG4 or the like. What kind of computer do you have that can display a compressed (or uncompressed) 4k file in real time?

This is true, however a 1:1 motion sample would be handy. Or if Peter Jackson shot any green screen stuffs, that would be handy in full uncompressed 4k. Especially if it's got some hair and other nasties in it.
