  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Good enough...

well, as this seems to be a good time for questions...I'm just writing my final paper on a comparison between the Nouvelle Vague and current developments.

Jim, would you say that after sound came to film and small cameras with sensitive filmstock defined the look of the Nouvelle Vague, Epic (as the perfection of digital cameras) will be the next step in cinema (respectivly indepent productions)?

Not sure what the question is... but EPIC is perfect. :-)

If you're in the mood to spill the beans Jim, what can you tell us about RED's foray into lighting with those HMI ballasts?

We have lots of things in the works... lighting included. Announcements fairly soon.

Are you thinking of getting into the Display market. Because there is a TERRIBLE lack of 2 to 3K monitors in the market currently. And I for one had to buy a iMac in order to get a reasonable 2K monitoring solution for the Home Studio.

I can just SEE 2 Large BLACk monitors on my DESk, with a nicely sized RED Buzzsaw on the back of them.

Okay, Red Ranch. Vegas. When do we see some renderings? Have you broke ground yet?

Since we bought RED Studios Hollywood, the plans for Las Vegas have changed and scaled down.

We have a monitor program... but so does Sony, Barco, Meridian, Sharp, JVC, Epson, Panasonic and Samsung for 4K.

Also Jim, have you guys thought of getting into actual Film production?

I know you do alot of production work, but how about RED OFFICALLY making Movies?

Buying a movie studio in the heart of Hollywood was a great way to say to everybody, supporters and detractors alike, that you're here to stay. Bravo on that one. Are you based there now or are you still working out of the OC?

Nope.

Engineering and shipping is out of OC. Marketing and support is in Hollywood.

3:30am. Time for bed.

Nope.

WHAT, why not that would be AWESOME.

RED films.

You are in such a PRIME seat for it, I could just envision that happening.

Can I attempt to sell you on that idea of opening up another branch of the RED brand?

I think i have some really valid reasons why it would work, but don't wanna overstep in assuming your even intrested in it.

You mean "how big"? :-)

Jim
So, in your long term plans will the next generation be that ne plus ultra?... or just a continuation of a long line of penultimates?

(Side note... thanks to all who stayed up and kept Jim engaged so the rest of us could come back and read the reruns)

Why such rant? Is Canon really pissing you off? =P
(sorry if this was posted before, but I'm too late to go through 56 pages...)

all technology development is a long line of penultimates...

you try to go with the company that puts its best effort forward the first time. RED is that company, and the RED ONE was that camera, back in the day. now it is an MXed RED ONE. tomorrow it's EPIC-X. and it's been what? about 3 years since the first cameras shipped?

(my first camera shipped in March 2008, and it is probably close to one of the very last cameras shipped from the original reservations, so the vast majority of owners have not had RED ONES in their hands for more than a year or so...and it's already a penultimate!?)

innovation is always a moving target.

somehow people seem to forget how young and inexperienced this company is...:001_unsure:
