  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Good enough...

1080P is the VHS of the future...

Oops! I believe RED will take us beyond "Film" in the coming years... hence we tagged along!

I think the MX sensor already does this.

Well, I am amused, I think if you have one customer, namely you, you would keep going just to make these things for yourselves.

Maybe not working 23 hours a day to do it, though :)

But don't fret, even I, an outsider, know you have enough hyper-loyal customers to press on ... so why are you even asking the question?

Puzzled!

The good enough people and standards are always there -- and they have their place.

But for those who wish to express the nuance and poetry of life, of mother nature, the feel and smell and texture of our world with a detail that allows for interpretation and exploration and depth, 1080p is very limiting. Just as orthochromatic films were. That you are not only expanding the technical potential of the visual vocaulary, but making it more accessible to the "little guy", is a gift that leaves many of us at a loss for words when it comes to expressing our gratitude. I think for many, the thanks is embedded in the work itself that the Red camera has allowed so many of us to do.

there is a much deserved vacation in there somewhere... tho i think it would have to be a forced vacation or something cause the people at red just seems too dedicated, many thanks:-D

If 1080P is really "good enough"... then there is no reason for RED.

We started this business because we believed that 1080P was NOT good enough a film alternative/replacement.

Film has much more resolution than 1080P (almost 4 times).

If the industry really believes that 1080P (or 2K) is good enough... please let us know so we can shut down and go on a forever vacation...

Jim

After seen 8K projected images, I absolutely and most positively don't think for a second that 1080p is good enough for anything else then YouTube!!

I can't wait to make True S3D 4K movies!! Even if the market is ready or not,.. it will be.

I wonder what kind of vacation suits to such man like Jim, he is extremist. It wont be a normal vacation, he might go and do something crazy and back with even crazier idea.

While in an ideal world 1080p is not good enough I think there is a big market for proper 1080p

-high FPS
-RAW
-about 2.5k
to allow for
boom in shot
stabilistation software
etc

It would be a good option in a modular system and apparently to my non technical head a cheap and easy one

Commercially my stills clients find the nikon D3 more attractive than my slow to use hasselblad which has twice the resolution

Vote: Not good enough, but...
It's depends what screen is the end screen, on huge cinema's screens we defiantly need more then 2K even more then 4K bat for TV screens 2K is good enough, so you'll be have to wait with your vacation thought.

Scarlet 3K is as low as Red will go before downscaling anyways. Have a feeling 28K is not the end for Red either. :torsten_violent-smi

You know mp3 audio files are supposedly "good enough" but when someone hears music recorded and played back at 24bits/96khz on excellent monitors their reaction is purely visceral.

It's usually silence followed by spontaneous smiling if not joy filled laughter.

Good enough is only good enough until you experience how good great is.
